Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – Brian Krummel does not race every event of the season at OCFS. But when he does, he’s always a threat to win.
And win is what Krummel did on Thursday night as he led wire-to-wire to take the Arkel Motors Sportsman 20 lap feature that was part of the Battle Of The Midway event.
In a heads up start from heat results, it was Krummel and Cody Higbie on the front row with Brian taking the early lead. Mike Sabia took 2nd at the start as Higbie settled into 3rd.
The only caution of the race occurred after 6 laps were done. Krummel took off on the restart with Sabia and Higbie giving chase. But Krummel was really flying as he pulled out to a big lead.
The last 14 laps ran off without incident and at the finish, Krummel was the winner by over 7 seconds with Sabia 2nd and Higbie 3rd. Invading driver Joe Toth finished 4th.
Racing veteran Rich Ricci Jr. finished 5th in the Vitale Motorsports 1X. Rich was subbing for regular driver, Jeffery Tubbs, to help the team by giving them some feedback on setups and get the team in a better place.
2021 OCFS Rookie Champion, Dylan Madsen, made an appearance and finished 6th. Gary Edwards Jr. was 7th, Dominic Roselli Jr. 8th, Tyler Peet 9th and John Bockhorn 10th.
It’s a big night for the Sportsman division this coming Saturday, July 30th as they will be running Twin 20’s. The Precision Hydraulic and Oil Rookie Sportsman and the NAPA North East Parts Group Street Stocks will be in action as well.
