Story By: JOHN SNYDER / ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – At the conclusion of the 30-lap United Rentals DIRTcar Big-Block Modified feature race on Saturday, August 20, the four drivers who will compete for the track championship will be determined.
Based on a formula that includes accumulated points and feature wins, the four finalists will then be in the feature race field on Champions Night, Saturday, August 27.
The driver who finishes in the highest position of the four will earn the Championship Trophy, $30,000, and other awards.
While much of the attention will be focused on the Big-Block Modifieds, drivers in Orange County’s other racing divisions, H.O. Penn Small-Block Modfieds, Arkel Motors Sportsman, and NAPA Northeast Parts Group Street Stocks will be engaged in their own division point battles leading to their respective track championships, also to be determined on August 27.
Qualifying races will set the fields for each division’s feature race.
Anthony Perrego is the defending champion of both the United Rentals DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds and the H.O. Penn Small-Block Mofifieds. Joe Bonetti won the Arkel Motors Sportsman title in 2021, while Mike Vigiletti was last season’s NAPA Northeast Parts Group champion.
Although Perrego, and Vigiletti are among the leaders to repeat their respective championships, the current point races are tightly contested in all four divisions, placing even greater importance of the August 20 feature races.
On August 20, the Pits open at 3:30 pm, the Stands and Drive-In at 5:00 pm, with racing beginning at 7:00 pm.
