Story By: MIKE TRAVERSE / ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – The Orange County Fair Speedway held it’s first automobile race in 1919. Except for the World War 2 years, there has been continuous yearly racing there for 103 years.
Think about that for a minute. One hundred and three years of racing at the same location. Except for Knoxville Raceway and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it’s difficult to think of any other auto racing venues in the United States that have been in continuous operation that long.
And the Orange County Fair Speedway will be celebrating that impressive longevity with a special event on August 11th with the running of the ‘103 Anniversary Race.
The headline division for this event will be the United Rentals DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds. Also on the 103 racing program schedule will be Pro Stocks.
Originally scheduled for 103 laps, the Big Block race distance has been adjusted to 75 laps. According to speedway officials, concerns over tire availability, high fuel prices and the excessive heat and dry conditions in the Lower Hudson Valley this summer, were contributing factors in this decision. The feeling is that the adjustments should make it a better event for all involved.
The winner’s purse is a hefty $17,500. it will be $500 to take the green.
The Pro Stocks made their return to OCFS, they have put on some great racing and have been well received.
The Pro Stocks will have a 20 lap feature with a winner’s purse of $1,000 with $100 to take the green. VP Racing Fuels is the Pro Stock race sponsor.
