Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – The Orange County Fair Speedway racing family is mourning the loss of a championship winning driver.
Gary LaBagh, driver of the 38 Special who raced mostly the OCFS / Accord Speedway circuit, has passed away.
Gary was a seven-time feature winner in the 358 Small Block Modified division at OCFS, capturing his wins from 1983 through 1985.
He was the OCFS 358 champion in 1985.
His blue 38 Special cars were always among the best appearing car’s at the speedway.
His son, Jared, carries on the LaBagh family racing tradition in his version of the 38 Special,, having a good amount of success at his dad’s old home track, Orange County.
A couple of months ago, as Gary was battling his illness, the blue 38 Special again showed up at the OCFS Nostalgia Night in the form of Pat Giuliano’s #51. Pat and Jared have teamed up for a number of races this year. They decided to do a throwback scheme of Gary’s 1985 championship car from back in the day. It looked spectacular on the track, a nice tribute to Gary from Pat and Jared.
Race Pro Weekly sends it’s sincerest condolences to the LaBagh family and friends.
