Column By: TOM WENNER / RPW – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – Steve Young won for the first time in ‘22 in Grandview Speedway Sportsman racing action on Saturday night.
It was his third career Grandview Speedway Sportsman checkered flag and three years to the date of his last actual win.
Steve went green to checkered in the full distance of the event in seven minutes of non-stop racing action. Special Thanks to the Grandview Speedway track crew for doing some track maintenance after the 50 lap Modified event.
The Sportsman field then treated the fans in the house with a non-stop caution racing main event.
Steve Young and Mike Myers led the TP Truck Equipment Sportsman field to the green flag.
Steve Young took command at the drop of the green with Myers, Zane Roth, Nathan Horn, Hunter Iatalese and Matt Clay in chase mode.
Mark Kemmerer took the F10 to the infield on Lap 4.
With 5 down on the scoreboard Young was powering out front as Myers, Horn, Iatalese, Roth, Clay and Schneck followed. Dylan Hoch cracked the Top-10 by lap from his 14th starting spot.
The Sportsman race was clicking off laps in a feverish pace with Steve Young out front at lap 10. Mike Myers remained in control of 2nd, Nathan Horn 3rd, Hunter Iatalese 4th, and Zane Roth in 5th. Kyle Hartzell pulled the 88 off the track on lap 11.
At the 15 down mark and still all under green flag conditions, Steve Young remained the leader. Myers continued to maintain 2nd spot, Hunter Iatalese was 3rd, Zane Roth 4th and Nathan Horn 5th. Zach Steffy pulled to the infield on lap 16. Brian Hirthler cracked the Top-10 by lap 17.
With lap 20 hitting the lap counter, Steve Young was continuing with the race lead and caution free event. Mike Myers remained in second place, Hunter Iatalese 3rd, Zane Roth was 4th, and Dylan Hoch was 5th, Matt Clay 6th, Point Leader Brian Hirthler 7th, Ryan Graver Jr. 8th, Nathan Horn 9th and Lex Shive 10th.
Dylan Hoch moved into 3rd on lap 21. Brian Hirthler followed him by moving to 4th on lap 22. On lap 23 Hoch moved to 2nd. Both Dylan Hoch and Brian Hirthler were making great runs all under green without the aid of a caution. Hoch from 14th and Hirthler from 17th.
Steve Young cruised to his 3rd career Grandview Speedway Sportsman win, 1st of ’22. A 7 minute main event all non-stop laps. Dylan Hoch finished 2nd, Mike Myers 3rd, Brian Hirthler 4th, Hunter Iatalese 5th, Ryan Graver 6th, Zane Roth 7th, Matt Clay 8th, Lex Shive 9th, Nathan Horn 10th.
