Story By: CHRIS MOORE / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – PORT ROYAL, PA – Fresh off one $53,000-to-win race, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco prepares for its second race paying a $50,000 grand prize.
This time around, the stars of the STSS head to Juniata County in Central Pennsylvania for the ‘Speed Showcase 75’ at the pristine Port Royal Speedway on Thurs.-Sat. Oct. 13-15.
Reserved tickets for Saturday’s (Oct. 15) headline event go on sale Sept. 21 through the Port Royal Speedway office (717.527.2303).
Sections A-G are FULLY RESERVED for Saturday’s main event while Sections H-O are for General Admission seating. All reserved seating is $40.
The three-day weekend features two STSS big-block/small-block Modified feature events – the latter of which pays $50,000 to the winner – a full show for the 410 Weikert Livestock 410 Sprint Cars of Port Royal Speedway, a $4,000-to-win race for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, and a full program for the New York-based Pro Stock division.
The ’Speed Showcase’ weekend has become an annual October staple on the STSS schedule, with the 2022 edition set to be the third consecutive running of the event.
Saturday’s headline event – the now 75-lap event that pays $50,000-to-win and $1,000-to-start – represents Round No. 5 of the groundbreaking Halmar International ‘Elite’ Series and Round No. 8 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region.
The crown jewel event is preceded by a full weekend of racing.
Thursday’s (Oct. 13) racing includes a 40-lap affair around the ‘Speed Palace’ for a $5,500 top prize, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to start. The event serves as Round No. 7 of the South Region $15,000 championship chase.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman of the Belmont’s Garage South Region will also be on hand for practice rounds, with the two fastest drivers transferring to the Saturday redraw.
On Friday (Oct. 14), the Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars join the program as part of Bob Hilbert Sportswear Qualifying Night.
The lightning-fast 410 Sprint Cars race for 25 laps around the sprawling half-mile for a $5,000 winner’s share.
The STSS Modifieds begin their quest to qualify for Saturday’s main event, with 20-lap Qualifying Races.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman hit the sprawling half-mile for the first time on the weekend, taking part in 15-lap Qualifying Races.
The full-fender Pro Stocks – based in New York State – will also be on hand for practice rounds as part of Bob Hilbert Sportswear Qualifying Night.
All roads lead to the main event on Saturday (Oct. 15). The STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman will run last chance races to set the field for their respective main events.
The ‘Speed Showcase’ championship for the Modifieds battle for 75 laps around the ‘Speed Palace’ with $50,000-plus reserved for the winner.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman race in their most prestigious event of the season, as Ice Less LLC presents the ‘Speed Showcase 50,’ paying $4,000 to win and $200 just to take the green.
The Pro Stocks run a full program on Saturday as well, going 30 laps in their main event for $1,200 to win minimum and $125 to start.
