
Column By: TOM WENNER / RPW – PORT ROYAL, PA – Justin Whittall took full advantage of his pole starting spot on Friday’s makeup event of the Labor Day Classic at the Port Royal Speedway.
Whittall started from P1 and blasted away to a strong lead while pacing the field. A close call with 10 to go on the backstretch that included Michael Walter, Jeff Halligan, and Austin Bishop required Whittall to take evasive action and escape being collected in the mishap.
A yellow with 5 to go put Dylan Cisney on the tail of Whittall for the restart, But Cisney was not able to match the speed that Justin Whittall was able to maintain.
The Labor Classic $6000 score was Justin Whittall’s 1st career Port Royal win. A field of 20 -410 Sprint Cars competed in the event. Logan Wagner and Lucas Wolfe led the twin Labor Day Classic Time Trial sessions. Mike Wagner and Justin Whittall led the Twin Heat Race Wins.
Justin Whittall led the 20 car field to the green flag. Dylan Cisney, Devon Borden, Lucas Wolfe, Buddy Kofoid, and Freddie Rahmer Jr. were the Top 6 to the green flag.
As the field came to the 5 down mark of the race Justin Whittall was blasting away at the front of the pack. Dylan Cisney was in chase mode while Devon Borden continued in 3rd. Lucas Wolfe and Buddy Kofoid rounded out the Top 5.
At the 15 to go mark of the race Whittall continued his rapid pace out front. Dylan Cisney, Devon Borden, Lucas Wolfe and Buddy Kofoid made up the Top 5.
At the 13 to go mark Ryan Smith pulled the #6 to the infield.
With 10 to go, the Yellow lights were flashing for an accident on the backstretch. Michael Walter, Jeff Halligan, and Austin Bishop got together and were collected. Justin Whittall came flying through the accident and just missed being collected. This reset the field for a 10 lap dash to the $6000 checkered flag.
The field was shown as Justin Whittall your leader, Dylan Cisney, Lucas Wolfe, Devon Borden, Freddie Rahmer, Logan Wagner and Buddy Kofoid.
Once the green was display again Justin Whittall took control once again and blasted away from the field. Cisney, Wolfe, Rahmer, Wagner and Kofoid made up the balance of the field.
With 5 to go, yellow lights were once again display as Devon Borden stropped the #23 in turn 3 with mechanical failure. The field with 5 to go was shown as Whittall your leader, Cisney, Wolfe, Rahmer, Wagner and Kofoid.
The field goes back to green flag racing and Justin Whittall breaks out front again. Dylan Cisney, Lucas Wolfe, Freddie Rahmer, Logan Wagner, Buddy Kofoid, and Danny Dietrich.
The rest of the way is clear and green as Justin Whittall easily cruised away to his 1st career Port Royal Speedway victory. The Labor Day Classic was worth $6000. Finishing in 2nd was Dylan Cisney, 3rd Lucas Wolfe,4th Freddie Rahmer, 5th Logan Wagner, 6th Buddy Kofoid, 7th Danny Dietrich, 8th Michael Walter II, 9th, Mike Wagner, and 10th, Paulie Colagoivanni.
