Story By: KING OF DIRT – WEST HAVEN, VT – When King Of Dirt Racing sends out monetary rewards after the new year, as previously stated, Matt Janczuk will get the biggest piece of the pie.
Arguably one of the best dirt Sportsman drivers, he racked up 12 wins during a historic season at his home track of Utica Rome Speedway to earn his first series crown.
Matt Janczuk is now an eight-time Utica Rome Speedway track champion after dominating the competition in 2022 racking up 12 wins in a single season. He’s got a hall-of-fame resume and the Oneida, NY driver has accomplished it all by the age of 38.
Going fast on track just might be his way to unleash his inner bad boy after serving as Chief of Police in the village of Hamilton.
“We definitely had an incredible season,” said Janczuk to KOD Competition Director of Points and Scoring Rob Hazer back in September.
In a current climate of cynicism and social media tantrums, Janczuk also spoke kindly about KOD saying, “Thank you for putting the KOD program together. It’s nice to have something for the Sportsman guys since it’s always about Mods. So, thank you guys.”
Janczuk started the season slowly, winning just once on May 13th. By all appearances in mid-June, the potent pilot looked to be on his way to a modest season at best. Suddenly beast mode engaged, and Janczuk went on an 11-race win streak. Each Friday night he’d start deep and drive out of fellow competitors lives to collect checkered flags. It was wildly impressive.
Before the 2022 season began, King Of Dirt Racing revitalized series efforts with a weekly program that featured a drivers best 12 finishes from his registered weekly race place. No way anyone could post 12 wins from one track, right? Matt Janczuk proved that theory wrong and outpaced a strong eight-win season by Merrittville Speedway’s Cody Mcpherson.
Matt did his damage driving a well-prepared number 33X Teo Pro Car carrying support from Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux, Whittaker Ford, Power Seal Driveway Sealing, Ted’s Body Shop, Stoney Creek Castle, and Finish Line Designs.
In the process of posting an impressive season at Utica Rome Speedway that included 12 wins, Janczuk rocketed up the KOD all-time Sportsman win list landing second overall. By virtue of those aforementioned wins and his bonus points, he made series history by achieving the perfect score. And now he’s King until someone dethrones him.
“Matt had a wicked good season. He’s a champion on and off the track. He had to beat out a heavily talented collection of drivers including Mcpherson, Edwards, Toth, Talbot, Smith, Mackey, Corcoran, Hartman, Power, Simmons, and countless others from all over the Northeast. It’s a good deal for him, and we’re glad he was part of the program,” said KOD Competition Director of Points and Scoring Rob Hazer.
SPORTSMAN KOD CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES: Matt Janczuk joins a list of KOD Sportsman Modified champions that include Justin Comes (2020), Bobby Hackel IV (2019), Connor Cleveland (2018 & 2016), and Rocky Warner (2017 & 2015).
