
Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – The 2022 Orange County Fair Speedway champions received their awards at a ceremony held Sunday at the OCFS Arena.
The informal gathering of 185 people enjoyed a barbecue buffet supplied by Dave’s Devil Dogs BBQ. Live music was supplied by The Black Dirt Bandits.
A total of $115,000 was dispersed to the racers.
It was Modified champion, Matt Sheppard, receiving the largest check in the amount of $30,000. This was Sheppard’s second OCFS championship as he was the 2020 short season champion.
In addition to checks, the champions also received very nice jewelry from the wonderful folks at Esper Jewelers of New Windsor, NY.
Other champions honored were Anthony Perrego, Small Block Modifieds, Cody Higbie, Sportsman, Bob Sleight, Street Stocks and Joey Conklin, Rookie Sportsman.
All of the top 10 in points in the Modifieds, Small Blocks, Sportsman and Street Stocks all received very nice plaques.
The awards ceremony officially closes the book on the 2022 season.
The OCFS Motorsports Show is coming up on Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th. The Diesels of NY also has a show scheduled for March 25th at the fairgrounds.
The Brett Hearn Driving School is in action on April 1st.
A practice session is scheduled for Friday, April 7th with the Short Track Super Series the first official racing event of 2023 on April 8th.
