Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / DANNY DIETRICH RACING – GETTYSBURG, PA – Mother Nature was successful in ruining plans for race fans yet again, forcing the cancellation of events at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, March 31, and Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Sunday, April 2, but despite the weather distraction, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich was still on his game, nearly capping his Saturday visit to the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace” with a victory.
Dietrich, pilot of Gary Kauffman’s Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, #1 Cochran Expressway, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Self Made Racing, No. 48 sprint car, finished second at the Juniata County Fairgrounds half-mile, in charge of the running order before being overtaken by Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania’s Lucas Wolfe. Wolfe made his winning move after a restart with two circuits remaining.
“Double-D” battled to second with ten to go before challenging Jason Shultz for the race lead. Shultz would go on to have a tire issue allowing Dietrich to inherit command.
“Second definitely sucks, but we’ll take it,” Danny Dietrich explained. “The weather hasn’t been too kind to us. It’s hard to build any momentum with only one race per weekend. Hopefully things calm down and we can get back to a normal schedule soon.”
Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2023 campaign with another weekend in Pennsylvania Posse Country. The team will visit Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, April 7, and Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, April 8.
