WoO Knoxville Raceway Double Ahead As Donny Schatz & TSR Look To Turn Luck Around
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing were well on their way to a top-ten, if not top-five score on Friday night at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri, that until some poor luck popped in and ruined Schatz’ momentum.
Schatz, ace of the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, started third in Friday’s I-55 Showdown and was pressuring for the top-five when the aforementioned bad luck situation occurred, actually making contact with the outside retaining well and collecting another competitor. The contact left too much to repair, forced to settle with a 17th-place/DNF score.
A runner-up performance during heat race competition propelled the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion to the evening’s dash; he would finish third.
Other recent highlights for the Fargo, North Dakota, native include an eighth-place outcome during High Limit Sprint Car Series action at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday, April 11. Schatz showed promise on the bottom early, keeping his nose in the hunt for a podium spot before being shuffled back to eighth.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with an early season doubleheader at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22. Certainly no stranger to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Schatz is the reigning Knoxville Nationals champion and scored $175,000 for his efforts.
