Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – The World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Models will invade the Port Royal Speedway this Saturday night May 20th.
The event will pay $15,000-to-win for the Super Late Model division. The Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprints will join the show for $6,000-to-win as well and will take part in group time trials.
General admission will be $30, with student admission $20 and pit admission $40. Pit gates open at 4pm, while general admission gates open at 5. Racing is scheduled to kick off at 7pm.
The event will be the ninth visit of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series to the Speed Palace in series history. In 2007 Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., won the first event in series history at Port Royal. Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., picked up the win in 2008, Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., was the winner when the series reappeared in 2017, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., won the series event in 2018, regional hot shoe Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., was the series winner in 2019, and Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., swept a two-nightweekend in 2021 against the World of Outlaws Late Models.
Jared Miley was the most recent winner with the series at the track last season as he claimed a popular victory for the state of Pennsylvania for his first career Outlaw victory.
Rick Eckert is the current points leader at the Speedway with a 35-point advantage over Hayes Mattern. Jeff Rine, Dillan Stake and Colton Flinner make up the rest of the top five. Michael Norris was the most recent winner in the division at the Speedway and ironically, he did it in the same car Miley drove to victory last season against the Outlaws. As of early this week, 44 cars have committed to attending the event and kore are likely to attend.
Madden leads the current Outlaw point standings entering the weekend with an 18-point advantage over Kyle Bronson. Ryan Gustin, Brian Shirley and Sheppard make up the rest of the top five. Nick Hoffman, Bobby Pierce, Tanner English, Dennis Erb and Gordy Gundaker complete the top ten.
Regarding the Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars, it’s Devon Borden on top of the point standings with a 40-points advantage over second-place Dylan Cisney. Jeff Halligan, Justin Whittall and Gerard McIntyre Jr make up the rest of the top five.
With the huge two-day Bob Weikert Memorial on tap for the division next weekend and an increased $6000 payday this weekend, you can expect many cars attending the event looking for track time and the extra dollars. In four total events held this season for the divisions, we’ve seen four different winners. Blane Heimbach was the most recent winner on May 6th.
