Story By: SHAWN BROUSE / WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY – MECHANICSBURG, PA – The H & N Landscaping World of Outlaws Morgan Cup is set for this Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13 at Williams Grove Speedway.
The two-night stand by the outlaws series drivers will be the first match-up of the travelers versus the Pennsylvania Posse pilots of the season at the oval.
Friday will find the action culminating in a 25-lap main paying $10,000 to the winner.
And then Saturday’s Morgan Cup action will come to a close with a 30-lap feature paying $12,000 to win plus another $5,000 for Morgan Cup bragging rights.
Action both nights gets underway at 7:30 pm.
Saturday’s winner will be crowned Morgan Cup Champion, laying claim to the cup trophy for the year ahead as it makes its home either at outlaws headquarters in North Carolina or at the offices of Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania.
The event’s namesake is that of former track owner, Morgan Hughes.
Last year in the Morgan Cup, Brent Marks took the win in the only show of the weekend that was completed thus keeping the cup at its Keystone State home.
Some 13 outlaws if not more should be in action for Morgan Cup weekend, led by drivers like point leader Brad Sweet, Carson Macedo and David Gravel.
Macedo of Lemoore, California, is always in the hunt when he comes to the Grove it seems as is four-time series winner to date, David Gravel of Watertown, Connecticut.
No driver has set himself up as king of the 2023 outlaws tour to date nor has any driver in regular Williams Grove competition.
All the top drivers in Williams Grove points are winless so far this season in oval action with track champions Danny Dietrich and Freddie Rahmer at the head of that list.
Four races at the track this season have produced four different winners.
