Story By: BRETT DEYO / GEORGETOWN SPEEDWAY – GEORGETOWN, DE – Honoring a respected Delaware promoter and racer, Georgetown Speedway hosts the Deron Rust Memorial this Friday night, June 2.
Auto Gallery of Delaware presents the annual event, with the Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modifieds headlining the program in a 33-lap, $3,960-to-win feature in recognition of Rust’s trademark No. 396.
Rust was a popular dirt Modified driver on Delmarva who ultimately took the reins of Georgetown Speedway during one of its more trying eras to keep the facility operating. Rust ultimately passed away in March 2013. His family and widow Tammy remain very involved at the speedway.
The night’s events are sponsored by Auto Gallery of Delaware, located at 1144A Savannah Rd Lewes, DE 19958.
Joining the Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modifieds on Friday are the Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman (20 laps, $1,396 to win), First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models (20 laps, $1,000 to win), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., with grandstand gates unlocked at 5 p.m. Hot laps get underway at 6:30 p.m., with racing at 7:30 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $20. Seniors (ages 65-plus) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $16. Kids (ages 9-12) pay $10. Children 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $40 (ages 13 and up), $35 (NASCAR Members), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.
