Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – LAKE CITY, FL – Sun, fun, speed – and more money. For the fifth time, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco treks south to Florida in February.
The ‘Sunshine Swing’ is set for Feb. 6-10, 2024 at All-Tech Raceway in Lake City, Fla., featuring both the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman.
BD Motorsports Media LLC – series organizer and ‘Sunshine Swing’ event promoter – has increased purses for both divisions in the fifth anniversary event.
Four nights of competition at All-Tech will launch Short Track Super Series season No. 11
“We’re thrilled to celebrate five years of Short Track Super Series racing in Florida with increased purses for 2024,” series director Brett Deyo said. “Wendell (Durrance) and his staff provide a first-class venue to showcase our series at All-Tech.”
In three previous February visits to Florida, the Short Track Super Series has competed at All-Tech on three occasions and Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., once.
Following an Open Practice on Tuesday (Feb. 6), STSS Modifieds will compete for $5,000, $6,000, $8,000 and $10,000 respectively from Wednesday through Saturday.
STSS Crate 602 Sportsman race for $1,500 twice, $2,000 and $2,500, respectively, over the four nights of competition Wednesday through Saturday.
Tire rules for both divisions are as follows: Right-Rear – American Racer 53 compound only; Left-Rear – American Racer 44 compound only; Right-Front – American Racer 44 compound only; Left-Front – any American Racer Modified tire.
Weights for the STSS Modified division for the ‘Sunshine Swing’ follow (track-scale pounds, post-race, with driver):
- Big- and Small-Block engines: 2,400 lbs.
- Wegner LS 427 ‘Weekend Warrior’ Spec: 2,350 lbs.
- PA/NJ/DIRTcar Spec Small-Block – open carburetor (methanol): 2,350 lbs.
- CT 525: 2,300 lbs.
- PA/NJ/DIRTcar Spec Small-Block – open carburetor (gasoline): 2,275 lbs.
- W-16: 2,250 lbs.
- Traditional bodies – no sail panels – will be utilized for the Modified division in Florida.
Crate 602 Sportsman will compete under Short Track Super Series rules.
