Story By: BRIAN WALKER / HIGH LIMIT RACING – MOORESVILLE, NC – The next step in Tanner Thorson’s career includes a trip to the High Limit Room in 2024. Teaming with Rod Gross Motorsports, Thorson is taking the No. 88 Sprint Car on the road full-time to compete on High Limit Racing’s national tour.
Thorson makes it 14 confirmed High Rollers for next year, joining previously announced Rico Abreu (Abreu No. 24), Jacob Allen (Shark Racing No. 1A), Spencer Bayston (CJB Motorsports No. 5), Brenham Crouch (Crouch No. 1), Corey Day (Jason Meyers Racing No. 14), Cory Eliason (Ridge & Sons Racing No. 8), Kasey Kahne (Kahne No. 9), Brent Marks (Murray-Marks No. 19), Justin Peck (Buch Motorsports No. 13), Parker Price-Miller (PPM No. 9P), Brad Sweet (Kasey Kahne Racing No. 49), Chris Windom (Vermeer Motorsports No. 55), and Zeb Wise (Rudeen Racing No. 26).
A proven ace in the midget ranks, Thorson’s career highlights include his 2016 USAC National Midget Championship and winning the 2022 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. The 27-year-old native of Minden, NV has dabbled in wing racing plenty of times over the years, though, including podium performances against both the World of Outlaws and All Star Circuit of Champions.
Looking at the schedule, Thorson will return to seven tracks he’s previously won at, including California’s Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway where he cut his teeth with a wing on top. During his dominant USAC Midget days, he also topped races at Riverside (Ark.) International Speedway, Red Dirt (Okla.) Raceway, Tri-City (Ill.) Speedway, Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway, and Lucas Oil (Mo.) Speedway.
Tanner’s High Limit Racing campaign officially begins on Monday & Tuesday, February 12-13 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL, and concludes on Friday & Saturday, October 11-12 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX. Along with 25+ races paying $20,000 or more to win, teams will also compete for a $1 million championship fund and an additional $100,000 points fund for the Midweek Money Series.
