Column By: TOM WENNER / RPW – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – Logan Watt and Kenny Bock score 602 Crate Sportsman Feature wins on an amazing Saturday Night at the racetrack in Bechtelsville, PA.
Grandview Speedway gave the race fans a treat on Saturday night, Mother Nature cooperated with a picture evening of weather, it was the recipe of a perfect night.
The track provided the canvas, and the drivers painted a masterpiece on Saturday Night. 3 features – The rained-out May 11th Sportsman Feature, and a full regular Saturday night show. All 3 main events were completed in 15 minutes, no delays, exceptional track preparation by the best in the business, and all of it was over before 11pm.
You will not find a better Saturday night short track racing experience anywhere in the USA. The competition and racing are second to none. Logan Watt goes 15th to 1st, Louden Reimert 6th to 1st, and Kenny Bock 2nd to 1st.
The May 11th rained out makeup Sportsman Feature would be the 1st main event of the night on the card, All qualifying was completed for all divisions, It would be Sportsman Makeup 25 Lap Feature, Modified 30 Lap Feature, and 25 Lap Sportsman Feature.
Teague Miller and Shannon Slaughter led the 26 car Sportsman field to the green flag in the May 11th makeup feature event. Slaughter, while new to Grandview Speedway Sportsman competition is not new to racing. Shannon is a very accomplished PA Micro Sprint Racer. She is driving the historic Kenny Gilmore race prepped pink and white #7.
Miller and Slaughter would go side by side for a lap before Miller took control of the event.
With 3 down, Rookie Teague Miller whose Father Jared Miller drove the 917 years prior is setting the pace out front. Shannon Slaughter, another rookie is 2nd, TJ Mayberry, Brett Grim, and Zach Steffy are the Top-5.
At the 5 down click of the lap counter, Miller is controlling the race pace. Slaughter, Mayberry, Grim, and Steffy are in the Top-5. Logan Watt is making run 15th to 10th in 5 laps.
Lap 6, The yellow lights are flashing for Mark Mohr and Joey Vaccaro who are stopped in Turn 1. Mohr rejoined the field, and Vaccaro visited the pits and returned. The field is restacked for the restart with Teague Miller out front, Slaughter, Mayberry, Grim, Steffy, Mike Stofflet, Brett Gilmore, Logan Bauman, Logan Watt, and Jesse Landis.
We head back to racing with Teague Miller taking control Slaughter, Mayberry, Grim, and Stofflet are the Top-5. Adrianna Delliponti, The Grandview Speedway Sportsman Point Leader is on the move early breaking into the Top-10.
The caution is displayed on Lap 8 for Mark Mohr who is slow in the 20M, Right Front Suspension Failure for Mohr. Kenny Bock heads off the track. Brett Gilmore is making a run from 11th to 4th, TJ Mayberry 8th to 3rd.
The field is restacked and another restart in order. Teague Miller, The Sportsman Rookie powers to the race lead as Slaughter, Brett Gilmore, Mayberry, Grim, Logan Watt are in chase.
Lap 10 is clicked off Miller remains the race leader, Logan Watt is making short order of the field as he is 4th from his 15th starting spot. Troy Bollinger retires from the event.
Lap 11, Logan Watt powers in 2nd, passing Shannon Slaughter. Miller remains in the race lead. Miller, Watt, Brett Gilmore, Slaughter, and Mayberry. Team Gilmore Racing cars running 3rd and 4th.
Lap 14 is scored, and Logan Watt is reeling in Teague Miller. Gilmore, Slaughter, Mayberry, and Brett Grim.
10 to go, Miller remains in race control, but Logan Watt is now stalking him. Gilmore is 3rd, Slaughter is side by side with Mayberry for 4th/5th, Brett Grim is 6th, Adrianna Delliponti 17th to 7th.
Lap 17 clicks off, Logan Watt is on the bumper of Teague Miller as Gilmore, Mayberry, and Slaughter are the Top-5. Grim, Delliponti, Stofflet, and Meitzler are the next 4.
Lap 19, Logan Watt waits until Teague slides up a bit out of the groove and pulls off a masterful slide job in turns 1 and 2. Watt to the race lead with 6 to go. Miller to 2nd, Gilmore 3rd, Mayberry 4th, and Adrianna Delliponti 5th.
Logan Watt hits lap traffic by the 2 to go signal from Ray Kemp, Watt has built a straightaway lead.
The White Flag is displayed with Watt controlling the pace, Brett Gilmore drives into 2nd place, Miller 3rd, Mayberry 4th and Delliponti 5th.
Logan Watt easily scores his 2nd Sportsman Feature win of the year becoming the first repeat Sportsman winner this season. Watt’s drive from 15th to 1st shows how this young gun is looking for repeat championship this season. Brett Gilmore with a great drive from 11th to 2nd, Sportsman Rookie Teague Miller with a great 3rd place finish, TJ Mayberry 4th, Adrianna Delliponti, Grandview Speedway Point Leader 17th to 5th, Sportsman Rookie Shannon Slaughter 6th, Mike Stofflet 7th, Sportsman Rookie Brett Grim 8th, Dylan Swinehart 9th, Addison Meitzler 10th.
The 2nd TP Truck Equipment feature event of the night was the regularly scheduled 6/1 Sportsman feature. Teague Miller and Kenny Bock led the 26 car field to the green flag.
Miller and Bock would go side by side for the race lead. Miller would take early control of the race lead for the 2nd time tonight. Bock, Stofflet, Lawson Szerencits, and TJ Mayberry were following.
Kenny Bock would grab the lead from Miller on Lap 3, Stofflet, Mayberry, and Vaccaro were in chase mode. Lawson Szerencits would pull off the track on Lap 3.
At the 5-down mark of the race, Kenny Bock is in race control with Miller, Stofflet, Mayberry, and Vaccaro the Top-5. Addison Meitzler and Logan Watt were on the move early.
Lap 8 is scored and there is 4 car freight train pulling away from the rest of the field. Bock is the leader, Miller, Stofflet, and Mayberry are part of it. Brett Grim, Joey Vaccaro, Ryan Graver, Brett Gilmore, and Dakota Kohler are trying to catch up.
Kenny Bock clicks off Lap 10 with the race lead. Miller, Stofflet, Mayberry, and Brett Grim are in the Top-5 with 10 down.
Lap 12, Cody Manmiller pulls into the infield in a big cloud of smoke. Cody’s night is over.
Lap 13, Logan Bauman pulls into the infield, Kenny Bock remains the race leader with Teague Miller in 2nd, Mike Stofflet 3rd, and TJ Mayberry 4th.
The caution lights are flashing on lap 14 for Brian Hirthler, Jesse Hirthler, and Grandview Sportsman Point Leader Adrianna Delliponti who are tangled on the backstretch. Brian’s left front is on top of Delliponti’s left rear. Ronnie Soloman spun to the infield. Soloman refired and joined the back of the field. Jesse Hirthler drives away and rejoined the field. Adrianna Delliponti rejoined the field. Brian Hirthler headed to the pits for service.
Brian Hirthler rejoined the field after service from his Four-Star Racing crew. The field was restacked with Kenny Bock as the race leader, Miller, Stofflet, Mayberry, Grim, Graver, Vaccaro, Gilmore, Kohler, and Gavyn Krupp.
On the Lap 14 restart Kenny Bock powers into the race lead with Miller, Stofflet, Mayberry, and Graver following.
Lap 17 is clicked off, Mark Mohr pulls off, Bock continues in race control with Miller, Stofflet, Mayberry, and Graver the Top-5. Grim, Vaccaro, Gilmore following.
The Sportsman field clicks off lap 19, and Kenny Bock is pulling away from his Sportsman competitors. Sportsman Rookie Teague Miller with another Top-5 run on the night remains 2nd, Mike Stofflet who finished 7th earlier is now 3rd, TJ Mayberry who finished 4th earlier is again 4th, and Ryan Graver is 5th.
Kenny Bock is in race control at Lap 22 with a ½ straightaway lead, Mike Stofflet and Teague Miller are side by side for 2nd, Stofflet would sneak past Miller for 2nd.
Ray Kemp drops the 2 to go signals to Kenny Bock as Stofflet, Miller, Mayberry, and Grim are the Top-5. Ryan Graver, Logan Watt, Vaccaro, and Gavyn Krupp are in the Top-10.
Kenny Bock takes the white flag as Mike Stofflet is making a run for the race lead.
Kenny Bock would go on and score the Sportsman race win. The win is Bock’s 3rd career victory, the last coming on June 18, 2022. Mike Stofflet came home in 2nd place, 2 Top-10 finishes on the night for Stofflet, Sportsman Rookie Teague Miller 3rd, Miller would lead both races and come home with 2 – 3rd place runs, TJ Mayberry 4th – 2 -4th place runs for TJ Mayberry on the night, Brett Grim 5th – Sportsman Rookie Brett Grim with a 5th and 8th place finish on the night, Logan Watt comes home 6th in the nightcap, Ryan Graver 7th, Joey Vaccaro 8th, Gavyn Krupp 9th, and Brett Gilmore 10th – Brett with a 2nd and 10th on the night.
