Story By: JIM BALENTINE / MICHAELS MERCER RACEWAY – MERCER, PA – After 100 cars gracing the pits and exciting racing in all classes last week, Michaels mercer raceway will run their 4th show of the season on Saturday July 27 featuring the big block modifieds, autograph night for the racesaver 305 sprints and the big blocks, the PA thunder on the dirt vintage modifieds, the 602 crate modifieds, and the mini stocks.
Pits open at 4 PM grandstands at 5pm, autograph night behind the grandstands will begin at 6 PM and racing at 7.
Grandstand admission will be $15 and $13 for seniors and kids 10 and under. Pits will be $30 and $25 for seniors and kids 10 and under.
The big block modifieds who will be part of autograph night before the races will compete in their second event of the season after the BRP modified tour last week, which was won by New York invader Erick Rudolph. Garrett Krummert who has two big block and two crate modified wins on the season and Rex King Jr who is leading in feature wins in the area for 2024 with 4 will be on hand along with Mercer veteran and 11 time winner Dave Murdick, Will Thomas, Brad Rapp, and Ayden Cipriano who may be doing double duty in both Modified classes.
The racesaver 305 sprints who will also be part of autograph night have been ultra competitive with three different winners in three races so far this season with first time winner Jim, Pattock , Vivian Jones, and veteran point leader Andy Priest claiming victories. Last year‘s track champion Jeremy Kornbau has been winless so far in 2024 with three top fives. Former track champion Jake Gomola with consistency currently runs second in points.
In the 602 crate modifieds unretired veteran, Jeff Shaffer Sr. leads the way without any feature wins but has two seconds and 1 3rd place finish to remain in the lead. Another competitive class as there has been no repeat winner as well with feature wins by Ayden Cipriano, Garrett Krummert and first time winner Pat Lane.
Carl Ealy is dominating the mini stock class with two wins out of three races but with a fifth place finish in last weeks feature it has tightened up the point race. Dillon Thorne who picked up a heat race win at Wayne county Speedway earlier this year is just 47 points behind. Cory Bice is running third and Devin Haley fourth. Multitime track champion Andy Thompson picked up the other win last week and is looking for his milestone 20th career mini stock win this Saturday.
The PA thunder on the dirt vintage modifieds will be on hand to race competitively in heat and feature events as the group relives the days of the pintos, gremlins, Vegas, Olsens, mudd busses and other homemade coupe bodies from yesteryear.
All drivers must have working raceivers and use the red ambit transponder system. The yellow units will not work.
Concessions will be open. Coolers must fit between the bleachers with no glass. Alcohol is permitted. Lawn chair seating is permitted in the grassy area by the fence. We are a cash or credit facility at all locations.
