Story By: BRAD STRAWSER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Port Royal Speedway is proud to host the 21st Annual Butch Renninger Memorial Race this Saturday, August 31, 2024.
This special event, held in honor of the late Butch Renninger, a beloved local racing legend, promises an evening filled with competitive racing and heartfelt tributes.
The Butch Renninger Memorial is a cornerstone event at Port Royal Speedway, bringing together the racing community to celebrate the life and legacy of one of the most respected figures in the local dirt track’s racing history. Renninger, known for his success in late model racing and his contributions to the sport, left an indelible mark on the Port Royal Speedway and its fans.
The highlight of the evening will be the Selinsgrove Ford Super Late Models, as they take center stage competing for $7,333 to win, and battling for a prestigious victory in Renninger’s honor. The Selinsgrove Ford Super Late Models will be joined by the Zimmerman Truck Repair Limited Late Models who will race for an increased winner’s share of $3,333 and the Weikert Livestock 410 Sprint Cars racing for $5,000 to win and a total $25,000 purse.
Fans can expect a full night of racing, with pit gates opening at 3PM, general admission gates opening at 4PM, motor starts to begin at 6PM and racing at 7PM. The event will also feature special pre-race ceremonies, including tributes to Butch Renninger and his contributions to the sport.
In addition to the racing action, the day also kicks off the 170th Juniata County Fair. Fans can enjoy the rides, the displays, the shows, and of course all the great food vendors the county fair has to offer throughout the concourse.
Tickets for the Butch Renninger Memorial Race will be available at the main ticket office.
Port Royal Speedway will then return to action on Monday September 2nd for the 73rd Annual Labor Day Classic presented by Foss Jewelers Inc. of Lewistown that pays an increased winner’s share this year of $7,300 to win.
Known for its rich tradition and history, the Labor Day Classic at Port Royal Speedway is a fan-favorite event that showcases the best talent in dirt track racing on a daylight racing surface.
The race day will feature the Weikert Livestock 410 sprint cars racing for that increased winner’s share and an overall $27,300 total A-main purse as well the fan favorite Front Wheel Drive 4-Cylinders.
Fans can also be on the lookout for a display from the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing as well as lower ticket prices to get in for the day as Port Royal Speedway shows their appreciation on Fan Appreciation Day.
Grandstand seating will be $15 for the day, infield access will be $10, and students between the ages of 13 to 18 will get in for just $5.
Everyone can prepare to see top tier competition while enjoying the Juniata County Fair, and also to be leaving the track with plenty of their holiday still ahead of them.
