Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S SPEEDWAY – JONESTOWN, PA – Despite all of his 270 Micro Sprint success at the Path Valley Speedway Park, Chambersburg’s Craig Myers had struggled to break through and find victory lane when venturing to the Linda’s Speedway.
But that finally changed back in May when Myers picked up the prestigious Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race victory. And on Friday night, Myers conquered the quarter-mile for a second time in 2024, sweeping the night in a dominant performance.
Myers was fastest among the 28 entrants in the Mike Co Motorsports 270 Micro Sprint Time Trial event. He parlayed that quick time into a heat race victory and the pole position for Friday night’s 25-lapper. And in the feature event, Myers went largely uncontested on his way to the checkered flag.
The No. 20M pulled away from the pack on every restart, fending off his brother, Cory, along with a hard-charging Brandon Heist. A dash of drama was added to the equation when the yellow lights flashed on with one lap remaining, but Myers held onto his victory over the final circuit, leading Heist and Mike Boyer to the flag.
The Stolz Stove Sales Winged 600 Micro Sprints saw their third first time winner in the last three races, as this time it was Landisville’s Holden Eckman who got the job done in their 25-lapper. Eckman picked up his first 600 win earlier in the year at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, and led wire-to-wire from the outside pole for his maiden Linda’s victory.
After a nearly two-month hiatus, the 600 Modifieds made the trek back to Linda’s Speedway just in time for the stretch run of the season. They saw a new winner, too, as Dylan Cordier parked Steve McLaughlin’s No. 4M in victory lane following a hard-fought 20-lapper, in which Cordier ran away from points leader Tyler Bartik and Kenny Harris to claim a special triumph.
The Front Wheel Drive class saw its first repeat winner of the 2024 season, as the Jonestown Throwdown victor and Linda’s Speedway Living Legend Bill Sherwood dominated a stock car feature that ran to green-to-checkered through all 15 laps. The win gave Sherwood the points lead with just two Front Wheel Drive races remaining in the season.
Linda’s Speedway returns for Back to School Night on Friday, Aug. 23 and features another exciting four-division show. The Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints and the Chargers continue their respective championship chases, while the Xcel 600 Modified Tour returns for a final tune-up before the 54-lapper in September. The stars of tomorrow in the J&J Auto Body Junior Slingshots complete the action next Friday night.
