Story By: MARTIN BELANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – After 3 consecutive rainouts Mother Nature let us play of JR Adam Limited Night as the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Series, Sportsman, Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock were on the schedule, the Modifieds had a 100-lap event paying $10,055 to win!
Ryan Arbuthnot was the early leader in the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals feature over Johnathon Ferguson and Tim Fuller. Arbuthnot was in heavy traffic as Tim Fuller moved to second by lap 10. David Hebert used lap traffic to take third on lap 15. Jackson Gill brought caution on lap 22 as he slowed in the backstretch. A good battle for second as Hebert challenged Fuller for second as red was out on lap 28 for Brian McDonald as he had some fire, McDonald was ok. No change in the top 3 on the restart as Mat Williamson joined the top 5 with caution coming out on lap 33. Fuller put some pressure on the leader and was able to pass Arbuthnot on lap 45 as Hebert used the same inside lane to pass Arbuthnot for second. At halfway point Fuller was first over Hebert, Arbuthnot, Williamson and Sam Charland. A good battle for the lead between Fuller and Hebert as Willamson was third on lap 60. As leaders were in heavy traffic, Carey Terrance slowed with only 10 laps to go. On the restart, David Hebert took the outside lane and passed Fuller for the lead. Hebert went on to win the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals event.
In the 35-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature, Bastien Caron was the early leader as he was racing hard with Burton Ward, and he hit the wall in the frontstretch, and caution was out on lap 5. A few cautions slowed the pace in the first portion with Kevin Fetterly being able to pass Ward for the lead. Both drivers had a side-by-side battle for the lead for most of the feature as Fetterly was the winner in front of Ward.
A few lead swaps in the first 2 laps of the 25-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman as Justin Desrosiers led for 1 lap as Gabriel Cyr took the lead on the following lap. As the feature picked up some momentum, Cyr was in lap traffic as an accident occurred in front of the leaders on lap 10. Cyr the leader over Shane Stearns and Desrosiers. Cyr led the final laps to win the feature.
Martin Bernard took the early lead in the 20-lap Rick Ranch Mini-Stock feature over Brandon McMillan and Antoine Dumouchel. Caution came on lap 10. On the restart, Brandon McMillan took the lead over Bernard as Travis Lamarche was in the mix. McMillan led the final laps and won the event.
Action resumes this Sunday evening with a complete race program with Street Stocks and Midget STR joining the racing card as the Pro-Stock will have the night off.
