Story By: HANNAH DOLL / BREWERTON SPEEDWAY – BREWERTON, NY – With Hurricane Debby ruining last week’s fun, Brewerton Speedway returns to action this Friday, August 16, with a full lineup of racing presented by Regional Truck & Trailer and Schneider Packaging.
The racing card will feature the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds, Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, AmeriCU IMCA STARS Mod Lites, and the Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinder Superstocks. Also, the Hustle the Highway 600CC Modified series will make their 3rd and final stop of the year.
For both Modifieds and Sportsman just three more points events are left on the card and the points are tight at the top. Jimmy Phelps has a slim six-point lead over Tim Sears, Jr. for the Tracey Road Modified Track Championship while Cody Manitta and Tony Finch II are tied atop the Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Championship standings.
Joe Garafolo and Zack Babcock also share the lead in the AmeriCU Mod Lite standing with just two points races remaining for them.
For Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman it will also be the final points earning opportunity to qualify for the PowerSeal/Tarvia Seal/DnD Line Striping/RVMD Service, Repair and Parts Sportsman Challenge to be held at Fulton Speedway Saturday. The race will feature a total purse of $4924 for just 12 cars. First place for the lucrative event will pay the winner $1277. Recently all 12 finishing positions increased by $77 in honor of the late Dale Planck.
The top-8 in combined Fulton and Brewerton Sportsman track points are eligible. Along with the top-2 in points at Can-Am Speedway and Land of Legends Raceway.
The current Fulton/Brewerton eligible drivers are:
Cody Manitta (897pts), Tony Finch II (690), Brett Sears (647), Kyle Devendorf (590), Ryan Barrett (564), Savannah LaFlair (538), Emmett Waldron (536) and Hunter Hollenbeck (517).
Nicholas Root (503) and Jason Parkhurst Jr. (486) are on the outside looking in and will need strong showings to gain eligibility.
That’s not all, as the Fulton and Brewerton Speedway’s CNY Complete Contracting Jr. Fan Club will present Kid’s Power Wheel Races. Kids of all ages will be able to sign up and compete, but remember your power wheels, as the speedway will have none on site to borrow.
