Story By: NATHAN ALDRICH / PENN CAN SPEEDWAY – SUSQUEHANNA, PA – John Michael Phillips collected his first career modified win on Glick Fire Equipment First Responders night at Penn Can Speedway.
Phillips and Brian Puckett led the way with Phillips holding a two car length lead down the backstretch. Brian Malcolm quickly settled into third with Danny Creeden fourth and Kevin Hartnett fifth.
With only two races remaining in the season Hartnett has some ground to make up on point leader Creeden, and the pair raced hard throughout the main event. Creeden gained some separation, getting past Malcolm on lap 27 to separate the pair.
Phillips would set it on cruise control for the middle portion of the race, but Puckett picked up the pace in the closing laps. With three laps remaining Puckett was able to get to the bumper, but couldn’t get alongside to make a pass. As the checkers flew it was Phillips taking the win with Puckett second, Creeden third. Malcolm and Hartnett would make contact in turn 4, sending Malcolm sideways while Brett Tonkin and Alex Stanton slipped underneath to take fourth and fifth.
Feature winner John Michael Phillips has been waiting for this one and kept focused on holding the bottom throughout the race. He would like to thank Taylor Recycling, Hallstead Sanitary, Beach Industries, Trackside Products, Blue Silo Photography, Erik Hines trucking and his Father for all of his support.
