Story By: NATHAN ALDRICH / PENN CAN SPEEDWAY – SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Marshall Hurd started on the pole Friday night and never looked back, leading nearly every lap at the Penn Can speedway to collect his second win of the season.
With four laps complete John Michael Phillips swiped the lead away, working the outside line on a double file restart.
One lap later however a pileup in turn one would give Hurd another shot at the lead. Powering down the frontstretch Hurd reclaimed the lead as Phillips drifted high and Alex Stanton darted underneath to take second.
Just as Hurd caught lapped traffic, Brad Szelewski ended up backwards on the frontstretch, erasing the advantage Hurd held over Stanton. Stanton would jump out to the lead as the caution quickly flew before the field reached the backstretch. Hurd launched well on the second attempt sliding in front of Stanton as the pair made contact in turn 2. Stanton made an excellent save as the yellow came out once again for debris.
With two cautions on the same lap the field moved to single file restarts, for the final 15 laps. Hurd would pull away from Stanton as Phillips, Bobby Puckett and Danny Creeden battled for third. Ceeden would use the banking to grab third with a diamond line while Stanton closed the gap on Hurd to two car lengths with three laps to go. Hurd was smooth over the final lap, collecting the checkered flags as Stanton, Creeden, Bobby Puckett and Phillips completed the top 5. Working with a backup car Hurd said the car was flawless and he found the bottom was the place to be. He would like to thank Midstate Recycling, Tracey Road, Nick Shaddock, St. Lawrence Radiology, and all of his family and friends for their support.
