Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – With no shows into the books thus far in the month of August due to Mother Nature and with rain showers looming again on this race night, Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter Tyler Siri and his staff pushed hard to get the program into the books which included the CRSA 305 Sprints along with a Regular Super 5 Show.
The Classics on Dirt Vintage Cars were also making their lone appearance at Outlaw in 2024.
Twenty-two of the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified checked into the popular Yates County oval for action and in their thirty-lap feature it would be a pair of veteran drivers in Rochester, New York’s Gil Tegg Jr. and Woodhull, New York’s Stacy Jackson piloting one of Tyler Siri’s potent machines.
At the drop of the green, Jackson would get the jump and lead the opening dozen laps before second generation, Elmira native Jeff Daugherty would take control after beginning the feature inside row two. The only yellow flag of the event would wave on lap sixteen, but on the restart, Daugherty was able to maintain the top spot.
Jim LaRock has been a fixture at the Outlaw Speedway for several seasons and lined up ninth on the opening grid and very quietly worked his way through the stout field and suddenly found himself in the runner-up spot and was tracking down Daugherty the race leader.
Lap after lap LaRock kept chiseling into Daugherty’s lead and with just a handful of laps remaining found himself less than a half second off the race lead.
With two to go it was anybody’s race as the lead duo had distanced themselves from the third- place machine of Mike Maresca and with the white flag in the air LaRock made his move and was able to just nip Daugherty at the line to claim his first ever feature event at Outlaw after years of trying.
A disappointed Jeff Daugherty had just lost one like how he won a feature event on June 15 as he laid a last lap pass onto then race leader, Brady Fultz to claim his lone feature thus far in 2024. However, for Daugherty his runner-up finish keeps him easily within striking distance of point leader, Alex Payne with the Double Point Season Championship Night coming up on August 30 which will determine the Track Champions.
Third went to Mike Maresca who began the thirty-lap affair outside row four and for Maresca it was one of his better top five runs after a pair of runner-up finishes earlier in the season.
The Doctor of Modified Racing, Danny Johnson put down another solid effort taking home fourth place money after lining up tenth on the grid all the while Bossman, Tyler Siri ran in with the lead pack the entire distance advancing from sixth to complete the top five equaling a pair of fifth place runs on May 31 and July 5, 2024.
In the Sunrise Insulation/Knapp and Schlappi Lumber Crate Sportsman Brandon Grover and Dale Welty would bring the field to green for their twenty-lap feature with Grover taking command off the drop of the green.
Three caution flags would slow the pace coming on laps three, fifteen and twenty-one with the latter being Grover’s undoing as AJ Lloyd would then assume the race lead and from there go on to his first victory of 2024.
For Lloyd it came as no surprise as he had previously picked up the 2023 Hoosier Tire Track Championship and with the “W” it proved he is as good on American Racer Tires as the Hoosier rubber.
Cayden Lawson has taken a real liking to the Fast four-tenths of al mile clay oval and after picking up his first ever feature win three weeks ago he was able to back that up with a hard-earned runner-up finish after beginning the event mired in tenth spot.
Brent Ayers had an exceptionally good point night finishing third advancing some eight positions and with that sits third in the Sportsman point battle easily within striking distance of current point leader, Darly Krebs.
Fourth was claimed by Blake Parsons who advanced from the ninth starting spot with July 19 feature winner, Ben Feldman completing the top five finishers.
Dylan Cecce began his career as a youngster in the Youth Bandit Division before moving up the food chain and now finds himself as the hired gun for Russ Clark Motorsports which is based in Williamsport, Pa. where he and his family now reside.
Cecce has a fleet of cars at his disposal including his potent Super Late Model, a Limited Late Model along with his Street Stock.
In the Swarthout Recycling twenty-lap Steet Stock feature, Cecce would begin the event outside row four, quickly move through traffic, assume control and never look back in winning his first feature at Outlaw in 2024.
For Cecce it was a three and a half second victory over second place finisher, Damon Decker who with his runner-up finish solidified his second-place position in the point standings with just one double point race remaining.
Gene Sharpsteen, who has been rock solid all year nailed third at the finish and leads the points going into the Season Point Championship Night in two weeks.
Brett Crawford began the event in the fourth starting position, maintained his spot throughout and came home to claim fourth some three seconds behind Sharpsteen.
Fifth went to Jared Hill who drifted from his inside row two starting position to round the top five, however it has been a year of consistency for Hill who is third in points and still has a chance at the Street Stock Track Title on August 30.
Marc Minutolo has been the dominant figure in recent years, completely overshadowing the competition of the Addison, Hornell, Corning and Wellsville NAPA Hobby Stock Division.
However, 2024 has not been kind to the big guy from Phelps, New York. However, on this night he was able to wrestle the lead away from Justin Eldredge early in the twenty-lap feature and from there cruise to win three on the campaign.
A pair of early event caution flags on laps one and three would slow the pace and keep the field bunched up, but there was no denying Mr. Smooth as he would go on to pick-up the win backing up previous trips to victory lane on April 19 and June 7, 2024.
Current point leader and first year full time Outlaw Speedway Hobby Stock competitor, Jeredd Dennis makes the tow from Addison every race night and the multi time Woodhull Raceway Track Champion has a realistic shot to claim his first ever Outlaw Track Championship as his second place finish finds him with a slim point advantage over Doug Batterson, Justin Eldredge and Minutolo heading into Season Double Point Championship Night in two weeks.
Early race leader, Justin Eldredge was able to hold on to third and complete the podium while Doug Batterson and Tyler Burnell would round the top five.
In the Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stock twenty-lap feature 2023 Class Track Champion, Brian “Corky” Grant along with Jeff Moore would bring the twenty-one-car field to the opening green with Grant getting the advantage and leading the opening pair of circuits before inside row five starter, Ray Hyer would assume control and lead laps three through eight.
The dominant driver in the division in 2024 has been Willy Easling of Beaver Dams as he has five feature wins to his credit thus far and after lining up sixth at the start grid wasted no time in getting to second and on lap nine took over the top position from Hyer and from there cruised to win six on the season and now finds himself just eight markers out of the point lead heading into the finale in two weeks.
Easling’s number one nemesis and current point leader, Jayson Smart finished second at the double checkered flags after coming from seventh on the grid with former class Track Champion, The Nature Boy, Mike Stone completing the podium.
Kevin Ryce began the feature outside row five and advanced claiming fourth at the finish chased across the line by Lee Fritz who raced within the lead pack throughout to complete the top five.
The CRSA 305 Sprints made a return to Outlaw after an earlier 2024 rainout, and they brought a solid field of twenty-six winged machines with twenty-four taking the opening green flag for their scheduled twenty-five lap A Main feature event.
Dan Craun and not found the top three finishing positions in over a two-and-a-half-year span, however on this night the veteran competitor was not going to be denied as he was able to find the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Victory Lane for his first win at Outlaw Speedway.
Finishing second was Dalton Herrick with Kyle Pierce completing the top three podium finishers.
Canadian, Tomy Moreau and Tyler Graves would give chase and round the top five.

Early in the evening the Classics on Dirt Vintage Cars made their first and only appearance of the season and did not disappoint the capacity crowd as both youngsters and oldsters alike were treated to a throwback to yesteryear.
Rocket Roger Wiliams of Woodhull, NY has had many laps around Outlaw Speedway over his career most coming in a small block 358 Modified so he is no stranger to the Fast Four-Tenths of a Mile Clay Oval as he strapped into his grandfather, Bob’s famous number 52 machine and claimed the Vintage Class Feature win.
The Sportsman Division victory was claimed by Tom Church with the Modified Class win going to Joe August Jr.
Congratulations to all competitors.
Up next at Outlaw Speedway on Friday, August 23, 2024 the track will remain silent for their third and final scheduled night off of the Regular Season, however when the track re-opens for competition on Friday, August 30 it will be the Season Championship Double Point Finale where the Track Champions will be determined in all six of the weekly divisions including the Fritz Masonry Youth Bandit Division.
Post season racing will then commence on September 13 as it will be the traditional NASCAR Night with the running of the Ted Siri Memorial where the USAC wingless 360 Sprints will make their first ever appearance at the facility.
