Short Track Super Series Set To Head To New Venues, Mohawk & Cornwall, Tuesday & Wednesday

Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – HOGANSBURG, NY – Breaking new ground. The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco takes on a pair of new venues with back-to-back events Tuesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 7.
Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne, N.Y., is up first on Tuesday with the ‘Summer Showdown on the Border’ paying $10,000 to the winner for 50 laps. One night later, Cornwall Motor Speedway hosts the $10,055-to-win, 75-lap ‘Rumble on the Seaway’ celebrating 55 years of racing at the Ontario oval.
The venues become the 35th and 36th tracks, respectively, to host a series event.
Following a rain-abbreviated visit to Quebec last week, Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., leads the River Valley Builders North Region standings by 31 points over Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y. Saint Catherines, Ontario’s Mat Williamson holds third, with Alex Yankowski of Covington Township, Pa., and Jack Lehner of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., tied for fourth.
Anthony Perrego (Walden, N.Y.), Mike Mahaney (Elizabethtown, N.Y.), Michael Trautschold (Roscoe, N.Y.), Marc Johnson (Guilderland, N.Y.) and Michael Maresca (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) complete the top-10.
Williamson maintains a scant three-point lead over Sheppard in the Ollie’s Overall Championship battle.
Last week at Autodrome Granby in Quebec, David Hebert became the 42nd winner in the history of the series and the eight different victor in 2024 as the first French Canadian to conquer the STSS.
