Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S SPEEDWAY – JONESTOWN, PA – A tight, season-long points battle between Jonestown’s Brandon Heist and Lebanon’s Mike Boyer came to a conclusion on Friday night at the Linda’s Speedway.
Completing his late-season surge with a third-place result, it was Heist who came out on top to claim his second consecutive championship in the Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints.
Heist’s night started off on a positive note, as he scored maximum points in his heat race by taking the checkers first in the eight-lap dash. Heist started on pole position for the feature, and that proved to be a blessing for the driver of the Dave Walter-owned No. 5R, as a huge pileup occurred just behind the front row as the leaders began the A-Main. That incident involved Heist’s championship counterpart in Boyer.
Although Boyer was able to continue in the race, he was mired back in the field while already facing a disadvantage in the standings. Even after being passed by eventual race-winner Brent Shearer as well as Jason Swavely, Heist’s result on the bottom step of the podium was still enough to beat Boyer by nine points in the final tally.
Meanwhile, Brent Shearer would follow up his 270 win aboard Jake Dupler’s No. 1J with a championship achievement of his own. The driver out of Manheim finished runner-up to Tyler Walton in the season finale for the Stolz Stove Sales Winged 600 Micro Sprints. That result for Shearer was more than good enough to wrap up his first Linda’s Speedway track championship, as he finished off the effort piloting the Pat Bealer-owned machine.
Walton wasn’t the only driver to break a long dry-spell at the quarter-mile on Friday night. In the Chargers’ feature, Chucky Kimmel held on by the skin of his teeth to grab his first win of the season. Kimmel’s timely victory gives him a two-point advantage over teammate Chris Warren entering next Friday’s Charger Championship Race.
After triumphing in last Friday’s Modified 54-lapper, Richie Hitzler quickly found his way back to victory lane in the 600 Modified class. Hitzler made the winning pass on Ryley Garman on a restart with six laps remaining en route to his fourth victory of the year.
The East Coast Legends Series ran their third and final race of the season at the quarter-mile. After carnage and chaos wiped out some of the early front-runners, Enola’s Scott Houdeshell was there to pick up the pieces, as he outdueled Logan Jones and made the pass for the lead coming to the white flag to score the win.
Linda’s Speedway hosts its final 5 for $5 show on Friday, Sept. 27. The jam-packed night of racing will feature the Charger Championship Race, along with the Lebanon Valley 50 and Lebanon Valley 20 for the Hoffer Paving All Star Slingshots and the J&J Auto Body Junior Slingshots, respectively. The 600 Modifieds return to the track as well, and the Front Wheel Drive division will run their final points race of 2024.
