Story By: TIM BALTZ / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – This season the Brockville Ontario Speedway offered something different for the competitors in the DIRTCar 358 Modified division.
A special two race sail panel series took place with a guaranteed starting spot for the Outlaw 200 in October for the 358 Modifieds at the Fulton Speedway.
The First of the two-race series was scheduled for June 8th and Cornwall Speedway invader and two-time Fall Nationals Champion Corey Wheeler used a front row starting spot to grab the lead early in the 30 lap feature.
Wheeler survived several restarts and pulled away from William Racine and Steve Bernier in the final laps, to pick up the first win in the two race series. Ryan Arbuthnot and Chris Raabe rounded out the top 5 on that night.
Sadly, Mother Nature took away the second event scheduled for August 10th and with Wheeler the winner of the first event, he will represent Brockville in the prestigious 200 lapper.
16 different drivers have won the previous 37 200 lap events on the high banks with Hall of Famer Billy Pauch leading all drivers with 6 wins including the first five events ever held from 1986-1990. One Canadian has won the event with Mat Williamson taking the victory in 2021. Wheeler will be on hand to try and become the second Canadian to take home the win in the 38th edition, which also pays a top prize of $20,000 to the winner on October 5th.
