Jordan Poirier Wins Southern Ontario Sprints Feature At Humberstone Speedway Saturday

Story By: STEVEN PETTY / HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY – PORT COLBORNE, ONT – Gary Lindberg from Ridgeway, Ontario won the 358 Modified feature at Humberstone Speedway on Saturday night of the Fall Finale while Jordan Poirier from St. Mathieu de Beloeil, Quebec won the Southern Ontario Sprints feature event.
James Friesen from St. Catharines, Ontario won the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman feature win. Dave Bailey from Hagersville, Ontario won the GR Enviro Rail Street Stock feature win. Rob Goulding from Port Colborne, Ontario won the Bosch Car Service Mini Stock feature. Joe Isabel from Pennellville, NY won the main event for the Tender Cut Meats Mod Lites.
Matt Farnham and Liam Martin brought the Southern Ontario Sprints to the green flag for their 30-lap feature, with Farnham in the lead. Dylan Westbrook raced his way to third place ahead of Humberstone track record-holder Darren Dryden. Mike Bowman raced in fifth and then passed Dryden to take over fourth place on lap five. Westbrook would pass Martin to take over second on lap seven. Jordan Poirier would battle with Martin for third place on lap 10, as Farnham and Westbrook started to pull away from the field. Poirier would pass Westbrook to take over second on lap 13. Poirier would use the inside to take the lead away from Farnham on lap 16. Poirier would pull away from Farnham to take home the victory.
Jay Mallory and Luke Carleton led the 358 Modifieds to the green flag for their feature event, with Carleton in the lead, with Mallory, Gary Lindberg, Ryan Susice and Todd Gordon racing in the top five. Lindberg would use an early race caution to take the lead away from Carleton, with Mallory, Susice, and Scott Wood racing in the top five. Wood would enter the top three on lap 20 as Nelson Mason would race his way into fourth place, followed by Susice. Lindberg would go to finally get that elusive Humberstone modified win.
Johnny Miller and Brian Nanticoke were on the front row for the Crate Sprint feature, with Nanticoke in the lead. Jacob Dykstra would quickly move into the top three and on lap three, would challenge Nanticoke for the lead. Dykstra would take over the top spot on lap four. Andrew Hennessey would pass Nanticoke to take over second place on lap 12. Campbell Baker would bring out the caution on lap 22, erasing a 3.4 second lead that Dykstra had on the field. Dykstra would pull away from the field to collect the checkered flag.
James Friesen and Cody McPherson brought the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman to the green flag for their feature event, with Friesen leading the opening circuit. Brad Rouse would take over third place from Dan McKay and would start to go after the lead duo. After a lap 10 caution bunched the field up, Friesen, McPherson, and Rouse would battle for the lead. After multiple cautions during the race’s midway point slowed the field down, Rouse would take second away from McPherson. The caution would fly again on lap 19, as McPherson hit the inside wall in turn one. Friesen would hold off Rouse to score the victory.
Zach Bleich and Travis Whittal were on the front row for the GR Enviro Rail Street Stocks feature, with Whittal taking the lead ahead of Bleich, Pete Reid, and Dave Bailey. Bailey would drive through the field and would take over the lead on lap seven. After making a transmission change between the heats and the feature, Jason Fontaine would work his way up to sixth and would close in on the top five. Fontaine was not done, as he challenged Tyler French for fifth place. French would drive up to second on lap 19, setting up a six-lap shootout between French and Bailey. Bailey would hold off French to score the win.
Mason Anderson and Pete Reid were on the front row for the Bosch Car Service Mini Stock feature event, with Reid showing the way off the start. Alex Riley raced his way into the top five early on and then challenged Tyler Lafantaisie for third place for several laps. Anderson would challenge Reid for the lead while in lap traffic but would lose ground and the second position to Riley on lap 11. Rob Goulding would take over second on lap 12 and would challenge Reid for the lead. Goulding would take over the lead with four laps remaining. Goulding would go on to score the feature win.
Sean Iftody and Ryleigh Sliter led the Tender Cuts Mod Lites to the green flag for their feature event, with Joe Isabel taking the lead from his top five starting spot. Josh Sliter would pass Ryan Anderson to move into fourth position, as Tyler Winger moved into the runner up spot and would track down race leader Isabel. Isabel would hold off Winger to pick up the win.
The Grand Finale of the Fall Classic Weekend will take place on Sunday, October 6 as the 358 Modifieds, Crate Sprints, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Mod Lites will all be in action. Pit gates will open at 1pm, with grandstands opening at 3pm, and racing getting underway at 5pm sharp.
