Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY –As part of the two-night Hoag Memorial at the Outlaw Speedway, Friday’s action included a pair of full-blown feature events along with front row dashes and open practice.
The Empire Super Sprints were making their third and final appearance of 2024 at Outlaw Speedway and even though their point battle was already claimed by Jordan Poirier of Quebec, Canada the $4,000 to win payday drew most of the top 360 teams in the northeast.
Twenty-five of the wonderful winged 360 powered creations were on hand for competition with three qualifying heat races and a Dash run prior to their twenty-five-lap feature event with heat wins going to Joe Trenca, Jared Zimbardi and Ryan Turner with Logan Crisafulli victorious in the four lap Dash.
Zimbardi who began the event in row one and Jordan Thomas who lined up in row two would immediately take control of the stacked-up field with Zimbardi flexing his muscle and leading the first seven circuits before Thomas went screaming by to assume the top spot on lap eight.
Once out in the lead, Thomas would extend his advantage to almost a full five seconds prior to a late event yellow flag waving on lap twenty-four setting up a green, white checkered run and one last opportunity to Zimbardi to snatch victory away from Thomas who had dominated the event.
However, that would not be the case as Jordan Thomas would reign supreme in holding off Jared Zimbardi as the two would flash under the double checkered flags ahead of Shawn Donath who completed the podium in a brand-new machine.
Fourth and fifth were claimed by Matt Farnham and New Jersy’s Robbie Stillwagon.
In addition to a full show of the Empire Super Sprints, the Winner’s Circle Deli 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks also were in competition all vying for the $1077 winner’s check.
A trio of early evening qualifying heat events were run off with former Track Champion, Scott Lehman, Bradly Morseman and recently crowned 2024 Champ, Willy Easling picking up wins.
In their twenty-lap A Main event, Bradly Morseman would get the jump over his aunt Danielle Morseman and lead the opening lap before Easling would go flying by and like he had done eight times previously in 2024 would totally dominate the eighteen-car field.
One lone caution flag on lap fifteen would slow the pace and allow Ray Hyer who was now running second one last chance to overhaul the high-flying Easling, however the Beaver Damn’s teenager was up to the challenge as he cruised to win nine on the season and hoisted the huge winner’s check and etched his name in to the record books as a winner in the Annual Hoag Memorial.
Hyer, who has only competed very sparingly in 2024, was able to finish in the runner-up position chased across the line by Bradly Morseman, Jayson Smart and Scott Lehman who would go on to complete the top five.
In addition to complete shows for ESS and Mini Stocks, Front Row Dash Qualifying Events were held for three other classes that would compete on Night 2 of Hoag Memorial Weekend honoring the memory of both Dutch Hoag along with his son Dean.
In the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified fifteen lap qualifier, Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler “Bossman” Siri and Tommy Collins would go on to finish in the top two spots thus locking the pair into front row positions for Saturdays forth lap, $7700 to win feature event.
Sunrise Insulation/Knapp and Schlappi Lumber Crate Sportsman action found thirty entries requiring a pair of fifteen car, fifteen lap Dash Qualifiers with Blake Parsons of Beaver Dams, NY walking away with the first event followed by Savona’s Ben Feldman’s win in the second Dash thus setting the pair on the front row for Saturday’s thirty lap finale where the field will compete for a winner’s check of $5077.
Rounding out the Front Row Dash Qualifiers was the Swarthout Recycling Street Stocks and with twenty cars checking in, two fifteen lap dashes were staged to set up the front row for Saturday’s $2777 to win fifty lap affair.
Dylan Cecce of Jersey Shore, Pa along with Gene Sharpsteen would both go on to win their respective events and will lead the field to green on Night 2 of the Annual Hoag Memorial Event.
Joining the action on Saturday, October 19 will be the NAPA hobby Stocks along with the Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stocks both competing for a winner’s share of $1077.
