Story By: MARTIN BELANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – Day 2 of the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend at Cornwall as Splash Well Drilling and Dirt Outlaw Apparel as the Sportsman had a double header with 358-Modifieds, Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock on the card.
Bobby Herrington to the lead in the 75-lap Sportsman feature over Gorden Clair and Raphael Gougeon. Herrington quickly pulled away from the field as joined lap traffic by lap 10. Herrington was the class of the field in the first portion showing the way as Travis Bruno and Jacob Nadeau in third. The leaders were in heavy traffic as Nadeau was able to pass Bruno for second place on lap 40, the lap traffic was a factor at there was some changes behind the leader, Herrington went on to lead the whole event capturing the win over Bruno and Nadeau.
Louie Jackson took the early lead in the 358-Modified 50-lap feature over Steve Bernier and Mike Maresca. Caution was out for Carey Terrance on lap 7. Jackson in front as Bernier and Maresca were in battle for second spot as Maresca pulled in front for second with 15 laps completed. Maresca had a solid car and took the lead two laps later over Jackson as the leaders were in heavy traffic. Yellow lights were out on lap 31. On the restart, Steve Bernier surprised Maresca for the lead. Bernier and Maresca raced together in the final laps as both cars were in heavy traffic. Maresca regained the lead with 3 laps to go.
Jocelyn Roy led the way in the 35-lap Pro-Stock feature as Yves Hamel and Marc Lalonde were behind him. Roy had a solid run, in front as several changes behind the lead as Roy survived several cautions and won the event over Yves Hamel and Bastien Caron.
The Jeremy Levac Memorial Race saw Adrian Black take the in the 42-lap feature race as Brandon McMillan took second for several laps as he faded with Carl Gorry and Christopher Proulx. Black led the entire feature and captured the Memorial race.
In the 35-lap remake Sportsman feature, Justin Desrosiers led the first lap as caution was out. On the restart, Domonick Merkley grabbed the top spot as Karl Letendre moved to 2nd both drivers went into battle for the lead as Letendre used the middle lane to pass Merkley for the lead. Lap traffic became a factor as Elliot Gamache surprised the leaders and took the lead on lap 17. Caution came out on lap 21. Gamache led the final laps and won the event.
We cap off our 5th edition of the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend tomorrow afternoon with our big 155-lap 358-Modified event paying $15,555 to the winners and close to $50,000 in purse plus Pro-Stock and Sportsman.
