Story By: TIM BALTZ / DYLAN MOORE RACING – SYRACUSE, NY – One of the big goals for a driver in any division in racing is to be known as the best of those who competed in their first year.
The 2024 season saw exactly that for Elgin Ontario’s Dylan Moore, who was recently named DIRTCar Sportsman Rookie of the Year and received the honor at the Marriott Hotel in Syracuse during the DIRTCar Champions banquet on November 23rd.
“It totally was a surprise to me,” Moore said. He also added that his family told him that he was in the running for the honor but never thought he would win it.
Moore, who competed in the Novice and Rookie Sportsman categories in 2023, claimed 8 wins at 4 different tracks and the Novice Sportsman championship at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
With that success the 2024 season was a year of learning as he competed weekly in the DIRTCar Sportsman division at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York on Friday nights, along with his first full time year at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturdays.
The first year saw a few ups and downs but along the way he battled some of the very best drivers on the DIRTCar circuit. His best finishes of the season included a 6th place effort in June at Can Am. On August 24th he would lead all but the final lap at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, finishing a close second on that evening to eventual track champion Bobby Herrington.
By winning the rookie title, Moore becomes the 7th Canadian driver to win the award and first since 2014, when Cornwall Speedway regulars Brianna Ladouceur and Ryan Stabler shared the honor.
Next season Moore will continue his normal racing routine, Friday night at Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York and Saturday nights at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. Moore says there are plans to venture out to different speedways in 2025.
Moore also thanks his long-time sponsors that have been with him throughout his racing career, along with his mom and dad and older Brother Brennan, who he competes weekly with in the DIRTCar Sportsman class. The newly crowned Rookie of the Year looks forward to seeing all the fans when the 2025 season goes green.
