Story By: JIM BALENTINE / MICHAELS MERCER RACEWAY – MERCER, PA – Michaels Mercer Raceway will celebrate the 74th anniversary of the speedway in 2025 by hosting 5 high paying 410 sprint shows that will feature THREE different sanctioning bodies.
The Aaron Fry owned FAST 410 sprint car series will host 2 of the events including the “Vern and Fumiko “Mike” Hawley memorial. The Hawley name runs rich in the area as Vern owned and promoted Hickory Speedway and also gave Mercer a rebirth in 1989. Son Jimmy is a Hall of Fame sprint car driver who amassed many victories in his long storied career, including a return to racing last year in the event run in memory of his cousin.
The BOSS non wing sprint car series also owned by Aaron Fry will make a return in 2025. The last visit was one of the greatest in Mercer history as the top 4 drivers battled for the lead lap after lap until the checkered flag.
The Western Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek will try again to kick off the week at Mercer as in the past every race has been rained out. The series run by Tyler Beichner has grown each year with car counts in the middle 40s for all of the events.
The revitalized all star circuit of champions now run by Rich Farmer will return to Mercer for 2 $5000 to win shows including the “Bud Miller tribute race”. Bud Miller is a local racing Hall of Fame legend who created the original All-Star circuit of champion sprint cars in 1970 and came close to building a NASCAR track in the Youngstown area. Bud in his middle 90s still remains active in the sport visiting the local race tracks and enjoys telling stories of the storied history of our local racing including his time spent at all the race tracks as an announcer or promoter.
More information will be forthcoming, including the divisions that will be running with the sprint cars.
