Story By: MATT SKIPPER / DIRTCAR – CONCORD, NC – Friday’s ninth annual World Short Track Championship saw eighteen MMSA COMP Cams Monster Mini-Stocks earn a starting place in Saturday’s 25-lap Championship Feature.
Brad Hamm, Logan Richey, Matt Gilbert, Cody Keith, Daniel Coffey, and Kevin Cooper in the six Heat races set for The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Heat 1
With a strong start from the outside line, Brad Hamm took the lead on the first lap and guided the way towards the Heat 1 win.
Behind Hamm, JR Warren and Tyler Riddle used every option available on the racetrack to compete for the win but had to settle for second and third respectively to secure a Saturday Feature spot.
Heat 2
Logan Richey led the field of Mini-Stocks to the green flag and did not let any pressure get to him as the No.10 Monster Mini-Stock led every circuit for the Heat win.
Nick Broome finished his Friday with a second-place finish, and Jamie Massey solidified the final transfer position with third.
Heat 3
Marietta, SC driver Matt Gilbert controlled the Heat race from his pole position start and quickly disassociated from the field as multiple drivers contended for a transfer spot.
Richburg, SC driver Travis Mosley rolled off from eighth, but he was not going to let his start affect his chances. Mosley got into transfer position for the third lap and moved his way to second with three laps remaining.
Gilbert took the Heat win, with Mosley finishing second, and Nicholson, GA driver Justyn Jacobs taking the third transfer position.
Heat 4
Dustin Bolin and Cody Keith headed the pack of cars to the start, with Keith getting the best of Bolin on the outside line.
While Keith extended his lead with a clear track ahead of him, Bolin had to battle Ronald Arch for the second place position, with Jarrett Warren lurking in the near distance of the two competitors.
Keith, of Franklinton, NC, won the Heat, with Arch taking second and Bolin taking the last transfer spot available.
Heat 5
Granite Falls, NC driver Daniel Coffey completed a masterclass in Heat 5 with ease, winning by over three seconds at the checkered flag.
Inside the transfer position battle, Mocksville, NC driver Connor Keaton traced the tire marks of second-place Everette Dunlap, of Concord, NC.
Dunlap drove towards the second transfer position, and Keaton claimed third place at the finish.
Heat 6
Kevin Cooper marked his spot into Saturday night’s Championship Feature aboard his No. X machine.
With two transfer positions up for grabs, Billy Cline, Johnny Raines, and Ben Burnett swapped positions through the six laps while Cooper drove towards the final Heat race win.
Cline took back second place on the final lap to make the transfer, and Raines edged out Burnett to claim the remaining transfer spot from Friday’s program.
