Story By: SHELLHAMMER DIRT TRACK – LEESPORT, PA – The night of champions celebration for the Wingless Wednesday and Super Saturday drivers at Shellhammer Dirt Track had a packed house as over 400 attendees showed their support for their award winning drivers.
Super Saturday entries averaged 127 a night, with the Wingless Wednesday nightly car average being 97.
Over 175 awards were handed out to the top drivers in all classes run at Shellhammer’s. Many of the champions gave brief speeches to thank their race teams,sponsors and the Shellhammer track staff for their championship award winning season. Driver ages ranging from 4 to 74 were award recipients. The Juice Box Class for drivers from ages 2 to 6 grew from 4 opening night to 12 at season’s end.
There was a championship tie in the Wingless Wednesday All Star Slingshot class as both Jason Dunkelberger and Lindsey Garl finished the season with 2030 points with many of the champions earning their titles in the season ending A Mains. Hailey Eroh was in the spotlight for both nights of racing as she won seven class championships for Saturday and one for Wednesday.
Some of the prominent class champions were for Super Saturday, Tre Mammana for Junior Predator Champ, Hailey Eroh for Junior Slingshot and Micro Stock, Colton Williams for All Star Slingshot and Mike Garman for 35 & over.
Wingless Wednesday class champions were Chris Dolan for 125 micro sprints, Matt McAnally for 270 micro sprints, Adam Buchel for 600 micro sprints, Lindsey Garl / Jason Dunkelberger (tie) for All Star Slingshots, Hailey Eroh for Junior Slingshots and A J Gerhart for Stage 1 Modifieds
In addition to the racers receiving their point standing awards, there were also special awards presented to the deserving drivers for both nights of racing and taking those honors were:
- Most Class Heat Wins: Tre Mammana and Lindsey Garl
- Most Feature Wins: Hailey Eroh (winning the most features in one class on both nights).
- Junior Rookie of the Year: Enzo Iudicello and Hailey Burnatowski
- Senior Rookie of the Year: Samuel Iezzi and Leroy Sorenson
- Most Improved Driver: George Reed and Dylan Kuronya
- Hard Luck Driver: Tom Lavalette and Sam Borger
- Best Appearing Cars: Katelyn Johnson (karts), Mason Lineman (Slingshots), Chase Wehr (Micros), Johnny Fugelo (Stage 1 Modifieds)
- Dave Cordier,Sr. Sportsmanship Award: Steven Frindt and “Geezer” Fanelli.
- Cordier Service Appreciation Award: Heather Eroh
All teams that are interested in running at Shellhammer Dirt Track in 2025 are asked to attend the January12th rules meeting at St. Mary Parish Hall in Hamburg,Pa.
