Short Track Super Series Modifieds Return To Port Royal For March ‘Speed Showcase’
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – PORT ROYAL, PA – Modifieds are back at one of the nation’s most beloved dirt tracks.
Port Royal Speedway – the Central Pennsylvania mecca known as the Speed Palace – hosts the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco to kick off the series’ Northeast season Friday-Saturday March 14-15.
Competing during the spring ‘Speed Showcase’ are the STSS Modifieds, STSS Sportsman and Pro Stocks.
“Port Royal is an annual highlight on our schedule for drivers and fans,” STSS founder Brett Deyo said. “We’re fortunate to have the opportunity to compete at the Speed Palace in the spring after a well-attended event last year.”
The weekend format is as follows:
- Early hauler and camper parking 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. Pit area weekend wristbands will also be sold during this period.
- Open Practice (all divisions welcome) from 10 a.m.-Noon on Friday (March 14). Pit gates open at 8 a.m.
- Qualifying for Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks takes place on Friday night (March 14) with hot laps at 6 p.m. and qualifying races at 7 p.m.
- Live music and a party will take place after the completion of Friday’s racing in the Commercial Building (approximately 10 p.m.)
- Consolations, followed by feature events on Saturday take place with hot laps at 2 p.m. and racing at 3 p.m. (times may be adjusted due to weather and temperatures)
- Sunday (March 16) will be utilized as a weather date.
STSS Modifieds will compete in a 60-lap main event offering $12,000 to the winner from a balanced payout of more than $73,000. The pay structure reflects the 2025 series initiative to ‘spread the wealth’ through the field offering $4,500 for fifth, $2,000 for 10th and $1,500 for 15th.
The complete payout is as follows: 1 – $12,000; 2 – $7,000; 3 – $6,000; 4 – $5,000; 5 – $4,500; 6 – $4,000; 7 – $3,500; 8 – $3,000; 9 – $2,500; 10 – $2,000; 11 – $1,900; 12 – $1,800; 13 – $1,700; 14 – $1,600; 15 – $1,500; 16 – $1,400; 17 – $1,300; 18 – $1,200; 19 – $1,100; 20-Last – $1,000. Total: $73,000
Again in ’25, STSS Sportsman will compete in their most lucrative event of the season at Port Royal. The winner of a 40-lap event receives $4,000 from a total purse of nearly $14,000.
Pro Stocks run 25 laps around the Speed Palace with a minimum winner’s share of $1,250.
Due to the nature of springtime facility conditions, the Juniata County Agricultural Society and speedway management will provide updates on the availability and scope of camping.
