Story By: DAVE SEAY / VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY – JAMAICA, VA – After much deliberation and thought, track owner Bill Sawyer has decided to cease operations for the dirt track after 25 seasons of racing under his ownership.

With a severe financial climate since the pandemic, the cost of operation has increased yearly due to out-of-control inflation. Every aspect, not only for Virginia Motor Speedway, but also for our competitors and fans visiting the speedway.

“I wish there was an answer, but this decision wasn’t made easy. I am very sorry to have to make this decision”, commented Virginia Motor Speedway President and Owner Bill Sawyer.

The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will operate and host two mud bog / Mega Truck events in 2025: Mud Mayhem on May 17, 2025, and the Run-A-Muck Mud Bog on October 4, 2025.
