Story By: BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK – SWEDESBORO, NJ – Most people have a preconceived notion of what a movie set looks and sounds like.

That notion has been created by what we see and hear on television.

If you have been following the progress of the Pony movie at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park during the 2024 season, your perspective may have been altered as you witnessed this work in progress.

To be clear, while the movie is largely being filmed at the race track, this is not a racing movie. Without a doubt, there will be plenty of racing action in this film and fans and competitors alike will be able to look for their own “film debuts” throughout the footage. But, Pony has a much bigger message to portray.

According to writer, Bob Hammell, “Pony is not just a racing movie. It’s purpose is to educate as well as entertain.” The movie is about mental health, experiencing tough times meeting the challenges of life.

While there is a story line, there is very little done in the way of staging. The racing footage is real racing action. The filming has captured whatever happens to occur in a Saturday night race. The racing footage is then married to the story line that can be revised if needed to reflect the action.

The story is about Aspy – the race car driven by the Marchetti sisters, Amanda and Pony who are chasing their dream. Life is not easy and breaking into racing isn’t easy for anyone – especially two young girls. These girls show strength, determination and hope as they pursue their dream. The sisters come from a strong family unit where they learned that family comes first.

The message is to encourage others to pursue their dreams, to overcome the challenges that are presented. It inspires kindness and understanding among people, no matter what the circumstances.

This weekend, the Bridgeport Motorsports Park booth at Motorsports was transformed into a movie set, per se. Two of the cars used in the movie were on display. They weren’t show cars – they displayed the dings and dents received during door-to- door racing. Several screens showed movie footage so that fans could get a sneak peek of what is to come. This unique display earned Bridgeport the “Best Appearing Booth” in the show. Fans were invited to pose for pictures with Aspy and to post and tag the movie. The foot traffic continued through the two day show.

Filming will resume with the start of the racing season. It is hoped that the film can be completed this year with a possible premier late in the summer.

Many fans have been very involved with the movie from the start. Billy Pauch, Jr., Sammy Martz, Jr. and Ryan Krachun have played key roles in the action footage.

Everyone is anxious to see the finished product as the movie’s message is portrayed with the Bridgeport Motorsports Park playing a very important role. The movie may bring the sport of dirt track racing to a whole new audience. It doesn’t get better than that.
