Brandon Overton Bests Spring Nationals Series Field At East Alabama For $10,053 Victory

Story By: RYAN DELPH / SPRING NATIONALS SERIES – PHENIX CITY, AL – 2017 Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series Champion Brandon Overton upped his win total to eleven with the miniseries with his victory on Saturday night at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway.
Brandon started his evening by touring the Phenix City, Alabama oval third quickest in FK Rod Ends qualifying prior to securing a win in his heat race. After starting third on the grid in the 53-lap feature, Brandon swapped sliders and crossovers with early race leader Tyler Erb until officially grabbing the point on the twelfth circuit.
The Evans, Georgia star then kept his #76 Longhorn Factory machine out front throughout the remainder of the contest to bag the $10,053 winner’s check. Outside polesitter Tyler Erb, who paced the field for the first eleven laps, trailed Overton by 2.299 seconds and was awarded $5,000 for his stellar runner-up performance. Series point leader Cody Overton climbed seven spots during the race to round out the podium in third. Wil Herrington picked off five competitors to finish fourth, while Ethan Dotson moved forward early before settling for a fifth place showing.
“Tyler Erb is my buddy – I wasn’t going to run into him and he wasn’t going to run into me, but I guarantee he wasn’t going to give me much room out there,” stated Overton in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “Hard racing, hell of a racetrack. We had the wrong tire on, so I knew when we got to riding there that we better hurry up and take the lead. Actually I think Tyler (Erb) had the right tire on. Crazy that we’re all from this area and he’s from Texas and he puts the right tire on, so hats off to him. I have to thank everyone on this Longhorn Factory Team and all of our great marketing partners!”
Brandon Overton steered a Riggs Motorsports Longhorn Factory car with sponsorship in part from NAPA Auto Parts, Dude Wipes, Coltman Farms Racing, UNOH, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Heartbeat Hot Sauce, Garnto Southern, Bilstein Shocks, Big Dog Stump & Tree, RW Powell Construction, and VP Racing Fuels.
A 24 car field converged on East Alabama Motor Speedway on Saturday to compete in round four of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco. Brandon Overton went quickest in MRP Fantasy League Hot Laps, while Clay Harris topped the speed charts in FK Rod Ends qualifying with his fast lap of 13.476 seconds. The trio of heat races were won by Clay Harris, Tyler Erb, and Brandon Overton.
Next up for the Spring Nationals tour will be a lucrative doubleheader in the Volunteer State on April 18-19. On that Friday night, a $10,053 to win event will be held at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee. The weekend finale will then take place on Saturday evening at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee. The annual running of the ‘Lil Bill Corum Memorial’ will once again shell out a $21,000 first place prize. More information on both venues can be found online at www.i-75racewaypark.com and www.tazewellspeedway.net.
