Cody Overton Captures First Career Spring Nationals Series Main Event At Senoia Raceway

Story By: RYAN DELPH / SPRING NATIONALS SERIES – SENOIA, GA – After starting out the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco season with trouble on Friday at Swainsboro Raceway, Cody Overton rebounded in a big way on Saturday at Senoia Raceway by picking up his first career win with the tour.
Cody stopped the clock fifth quickest overall during the qualifying session prior to securing a heat race triumph. After starting the 53-lap headliner from the outside of the front row, Cody grabbed the top spot from polesitter Cory Hedgecock on the third circuit and never looked back.
With the track turning bottom dominant in the early stages of the race, Cody kept his #2 machine glued to the inside groove, repelled a late-race challenge by Ethan Dotson, and won by 0.837 of a second in the caution-free affair to bag the $10,053 payday. Finishing second at the Senoia, Georgia oval was the sixth-starting Dotson. Ashton Winger ran in the runner-up spot through much of the contest before rounding out the podium in third. Cory Hedgecock, who narrowly led the first couple of laps, came home in the fourth position, while Dalton Cook recorded his second straight fifth place performance with the Spring Nationals tour.
“Just proves how good my guys are by rebounding like that after we had some trouble last night at Swainsboro,” quoted Overton in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “Accidents like that happen. It’s just tough, we were non-stop changing stuff and some things got left behind. My car was really good though and it showed tonight. I hate that the track took rubber like that because I felt like we were maneuverable and I could have put my car wherever it needed to go. Thanks to everyone associated with our team – the crew guys and all of our great sponsors!”
The Evans, Georgia ace piloted a Dave Steine Motorsports #2 Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Shaw Trucking, Big Dog Stump & Tree, Richard David Legacy Motors, Morley Enterprises, Supply Chain Management, Coltman Farms Racing, Tribble Electric, Budweiser, Buffalo Bar & Grill, Southern Time Clothing, H&A Development, and Bilstein Shock Absorbers.
A contingent of 30 competitors piled into the Senoia Raceway pit area to do battle in the first round of the Coltman Farms Cup. Cody Overton went quickest in MyRacePass Fantasy Racing Hot Laps with a time of 15.498 seconds, while Cory Hedgecock earned Fast Time honors during FK Rod Ends qualifying with his fast lap of 15.587 seconds. The trio of heat races were won by Hedgecock, Overton, and Zack Mitchell. The lone B-Main was captured by Michael Page.
After the pair of Spring Nationals races over the weekend in the Peach State, Ethan Dotson, of Bakersfield, California, currently sits atop of the miniseries point standings. Chris Madden and Trey Mills are tied for the second spot – only six markers behind Dotson. Dalton Cook and Ashton Winger round out the top five in the latest series standings. By virtue of his victory at Senoia, Cody Overton finds himself on top of the leaderboard for the Coltman Farms Cup.
Next up for the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco will be an Alabama two-step on March 28-29. Up first will be a visit to Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, Alabama on that Friday for a $7,553 to win event, while Saturday’s show at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama will shell out a $10,053 first place prize. The shootout at EAMS will also be the second race in the chase for the coveted Coltman Farms Cup.
