Garrett Smith Goes Wire-To-Wire For Spring Nationals Triumph At Buckshot Speedway

Story By: RYAN DELPH / SPRING NATIONALS SERIES – CLANTON, AL – Garrett Smith, of Eatonton, Georgia, claimed his second career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco victory on Friday night at Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, Alabama.
Garrett, who earned the pole position for the A-Main by knocking down the quickest time in FK Rod Ends qualifying, took the lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back. The former Dirt Track World Champion eventually led all forty circuits to pocket the $7,553 first place prize money.
Finishing in the runner-up spot was sixth-starting Cody Overton, who finished nearly a second behind Smith, but took over the Spring Nationals point lead. In his Buckshot Speedway debut, Dylan Knowles moved up two positions to round out the podium in third. Jordy Nipper, who ran as high as second early in the contest, wound up fourth and Dillon Tidmore picked off four competitors to capture the final spot inside of the top five.
“God is good man,” exclaimed the winning Smith in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “I feel like I’ve been kind of doubting myself and I’ve just been talking to Him and reading some stuff and just trying to get my motivation up. I’ve been struggling here lately, but we’ve been working hard at the shop. I can’t thank everybody that helps me (enough).”
Garrett Smith piloted a Garrett Smith Performance Longhorn Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Terminal Maintenance & Construction, Atlanta Paving & Concrete, Cadillac Ranch, G Spot Inc., VP Racing Fuels, Boswell Oil Company, JM Custom Laser, Go Lithium Batteries, Slicker Graphics, Bilstein Shocks, DirtCarLift, and Schaeffer’s Oil.
A total of twenty-one Super Late Model competitors were in the pit area on Friday at Buckshot Speedway for round three of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series. Nineteen drivers made the start in the 40-lap feature event and the lineup was set solely from FK Rod Ends time trials. Garrett Smith topped the speed charts in qualifying with his quick lap of 13.215 seconds. A total of three DirtCarLift.com caution periods slowed the action including a pair of early race pile-ups.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco quickly shifts to the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama on Saturday night, March 29.
