Joseph Joiner Capitalizes On Matt Dooley’s Misfortune To Take SAS Checkers At Southern Raceway
Story By: RYAN DELPH / SOUTHERN ALL STAR DIRT RACING SERIES – MILTON, FL – The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Franklin Enterprises rolled into Southern Raceway on Friday and it was hometown driver Joseph Joiner emerging victorious in the 30-lap feature event to secure his tenth career tour victory.
Joseph clicked off the second quickest lap overall during VP Racing Fuels qualifying to earn the outside of the front row for the start of the A-Main. The Milton, Florida ace then hounded polesitter and early race leader Matt Dooley for the first half of the contest before Dooley came up lame with a broken rear-end on lap sixteen.
After inheriting the point, Joiner kept his #10 machine out front for the remainder of the weekend opener to pocket the $3,000 first place prize money. Finishing 1.074 seconds behind at the checkers was runner-up Billy Franklin, who started in the fifth spot and is now the new SAS point leader. David Breazeale picked off four competitors to round out at the podium in third. Thirteenth-starting Steven Jernigan rallied to finish fourth, while Floridian Ryan Crane earned the final position inside of the top five.
“I was really surprised at how good (Dooley) was able to take off at the start of the race,” quoted the winning Joiner in victory lane. “I think we kinda know what’s going on a little bit, you know this restrictor plate deal is a little bit new to us. I think there’s stuff we can do to help out that deal a little bit – we’re going to have to work on that tomorrow because we’re definitely getting beat off the line.”
Joseph Joiner’s Capital Race Car was powered by a Clements Racing Engine and was sponsored in part by Kubota Tractors, Kubota Genuine Parts, Trading Paints, Hunt the Front TV, Northshore Boat Storage, Dirt Track Bank, Swift Springs, Base Racing Fuel, NRC Oil Pumps, AFCO Racing Products, QA1, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld Headers, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, KRC Power Steering, Earnhardt Technologies, MD3, Five Star Bodies, Gorsuch Performance, and ATC Bolts.
A 19 car field assembled at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida for round two of the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Franklin Enterprises schedule. Joseph Joiner went quickest in J&J Construction Hot Laps, while Matt Dooley earned the pole position for the feature with his quick lap of 14.488 seconds during the time trial session. Dooley also earned a $250 Fast Time bonus courtesy of Three Trade Consultants & Joiner Fill Dirt.
