RPW Exclusive: Rockfish Erupts With Thrilling Races, First-Time Wins & Dominant Performances

Column By: CHARLES WISLER / RPW – RAEFORD, NC – The roar of engines and the cheers of the crowd echoed through Rockfish Speedway this past weekend, as fans witnessed a night of high-octane racing that delivered edge-of-your-seat excitement.

From nail-biting finishes to dominant displays, the evening showcased the best of local racing talent.

The 600 Sprint feature started with a packed field of 20 cars. Caleb Scarborough, starting from pole position, demonstrated a masterclass in racing, maintaining his lead and ultimately crossing the finish line in victory lane. The intense competition kept fans on their feet, but Scarborough’s skill proved insurmountable.

The Mod Lite feature, however, proved to be a battle of attrition. Starting with 15 cars, the race was plagued by numerous cautions, resulting in a dramatic reduction of the field. In a chaotic finish, Donovan “Action” Jackson, who started second, navigated the carnage to emerge victorious. Angel Rivera showcased impressive skill, gaining six positions to secure a second-place finish, while Richie Young advanced four spots to claim third. Only seven cars remained on the track when the checkered flag waved, highlighting the intensity of the race.

The Junior Sprint division saw Layne Gerrald capture his first win of the 2025 season. Gerrald demonstrated impressive control and speed, marking a significant milestone in his racing career.

History was made at Rockfish Speedway with the inaugural race of the new Winged Junior Sprint division. Giselle Hicks etched her name into the record books by claiming the division’s first-ever victory, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

In the 270 Winged Micro class, Wesley Sweatman delivered a performance of sheer dominance. Starting from pole position, Sweatman never relinquished his lead, nearly lapping the entire field. His commanding performance left spectators in awe.

The thrilling night of racing has left fans eagerly anticipating the next event at Rockfish Speedway, scheduled for April 5th. With the season in full swing, local racing enthusiasts are guaranteed more action-packed nights at the track.
