RPW Exclusive: Rockfish Speedway Roars Back To Life With Thrilling Sprint Car & Mod Lite Action

Column By: CHARLES WISLER / RPW – RAEFORD, NC – The familiar roar of engines echoed through the Hoke County air on Saturday night as Rockfish Speedway returned to action, delivering an evening of high-octane racing that continues to solidify its growing reputation in the sprint car world.

A healthy crowd gathered at the hometown track, witnessing exciting battles and impressive performances across the 600 Sprint and Mod Lite divisions.

The headline event, the 600 Sprint feature, boasted a strong field of over 20 cars, a testament to the track’s increasing draw for talented drivers. However, the excitement began with a dramatic incident right at the drop of the green flag. Beckham Malone’s machine went airborne in a startling turn of events. Thankfully, Malone quickly and safely extricated himself from the wreckage, offering a reassuring wave to the concerned spectators, signaling he was unharmed.

Once the race got underway again, Aidan Turner in the #26T proved to be the class of the field. Starting from the pole position, Turner put on a dominant display, leading every single lap and holding off any potential challenges. Behind him, the racing was fierce. Cole Cabre, piloting the #12 machine, put on an impressive drive, carving his way through the field from his fourth-place starting position to ultimately secure a well-deserved second-place finish.

The Mod Lite division also provided its share of excitement, with 12 cars signing in for their feature event. Donovan Jackson, a familiar face and consistent frontrunner at Rockfish Speedway, started on the pole and showcased his deep understanding of the track. Jackson put on a clinic, pulling away from the field early and maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the entire race. Despite the efforts of the chasing pack, Jackson was never truly challenged for the top spot, demonstrating his experience and skill on his home turf.

Last night’s event at Rockfish Speedway was a clear indication of the vibrant racing scene thriving at the local level. The strong car counts, particularly in the competitive 600 Sprint division, highlight the track’s growing appeal within the sprint car community. The mix of seasoned veterans like Donovan Jackson and rising talents like those in the Sprint Car field promises more thrilling action to come.

Fans won’t have to wait long for their next dose of speed and excitement, as Rockfish Speedway is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, April 19th.
