RPW Exclusive: Thrills & Victories Abound At Lake View Motor Speedway’s Easter Showcase

Column By: CHARLES WISLER / RPW – NICHOLS, SC – The dedication of Scott Trip and the Lake View Motor Speedway crew continues to elevate the racing experience in Nichols.

Their ongoing reinvestment in the track, highlighted by the recent addition of new red clay, is clearly paying dividends, fostering thrilling competition and impressive speeds. Saturday night’s Easter Bunny Southeast Late Model Showcase was a prime example, delivering an action-packed evening for drivers and fans alike.

The event kicked off with a delightful Easter egg hunt for the youngsters, courtesy of the Jackson Winkeler Foundation, setting a festive atmosphere before the engines fired up.

The qualifying rounds for the Ultimate Super Late Model Series immediately showcased the enhanced track conditions. Christian Thomas piloted his #06 machine to a blistering lap of 15.477 seconds, securing the pole position and coming within a mere two-hundredths of a second of tying a track record that has stood for four decades, according to Lake View Motor Speedway reports. Thomas went on to capitalize on his pole position, leading every lap to claim the Super Late Model Series feature win in a 16 car field.

The $2,000 Red Clay 602 Late Model Series feature provided a captivating battle. Starting from the second spot, Dawson Lowe ultimately emerged victorious.

In the Sharp Mini Late Model Series feature, Preston Beckham delivered a remarkable drive. Starting back in sixth place in his #2B machine, Beckham skillfully navigated the field to reach second position. On the very last lap, he executed a successful pass on Bryan Funk, snatching the feature win in a dramatic finish.

The Southern Wedge Latemodel Association feature saw Eric Thompson start from the pole and hold off the competition to secure a significant victory. This win marked Thompson’s first in the SWLA series and his first overall since 2017, a testament to the enduring power of skill and determination in motorsports.

The Stock V8 series feature, which boasted a strong field of 11 entries, witnessed Michael Butler’s impressive drive to the front. Starting fourth in his #48 car, Butler steadily worked his way into second place before overtaking Chip Fenoff around the midpoint of the race. From there, he never looked back, claiming the feature win.

In the CRUSA-style street stocks division, Cameron Holloway proved to be the dominant force. Despite persistent pressure from a hard-charging Terry Caples throughout the race, Holloway maintained his lead and ultimately secured a well-deserved victory.

The Easter Bunny Southeast Late Model Showcase at Lake View Motor Speedway was a resounding success, highlighting the positive impact of the track’s ongoing improvements and delivering a night of unforgettable racing action.

The next event on the schedule for Lake View Motor Speedway is the SCDRA Beach Bash $5000 to win on April 26th.
