Brandon Heist Wins Pistol Pete Duels Tune-Up At Linda’s Speedway

Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S SPEEDWAY – JONESTOWN, PA – With one week until one of the biggest and most special 270 Micro Sprint races of the year – the inaugural Pistol Pete Duels – competitors flocked to the Linda’s Speedway despite a threatening forecast.
After a brief delay, the Jonestown quarter-mile finally got the better of Mother Nature on Friday night. And when both the skies and the smoke cleared, a usual suspect found himself
in the winner’s circle, as Brandon Heist used a dramatic late-race charge to score his second win of the year.
Heist rolled off seventh in the Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprint feature event, and by the halfway mark had picked his way up into the fourth spot. When early-race pace-setter Austin Graby burned, the lead shifted hands to defending Winged 600 track champion Brent Shearer. Mike Skias and Dave Labe both were in the fight as well in what became a thrilling, four-car battle for the win.
In usual methodical fashion, Heist picked his spots carefully to accelerate his way up the order. He took advantage of a slip-up by Skias entering turn 1 to grab third, and then made a quick pass on Labe for the second spot with five laps to go. Two circuits later, he swooped inside of Shearer on the frontstretch to complete the race-winning pass, taking Dave Walter’s No. 4R entry into the winner’s circle for the first time.
Some fresh faces made their way into victory lane during the night’s other scheduled features. In Xcel 600 Modified competition, Lance Garrison finally broke through to victory lane after holding off defending Chargers champion Chris Warren. The Hoffer Paving Junior Slingshots saw another new name drive to the winner’s circle, as Aubrey beat Lilly Esterly to the checkers in their 15-lap feature.
Making his Bernheisel Race Components Chargers debut in the 2025 season, last year’s Charger Championship Race winner Jeremy Ott picked up right where he left off by dominating the 15-lap A-Main for the stock cars on Friday night.
The PA Micro Midgets made their second of four appearances at Linda’s this season, and it was Todd Walls breaking out the broom in the 500 division, winning both the makeup feature from April 25 and the regularly-scheduled event. The second of Walls’ victories came with a dramatic, last-corner pass on Matt Kiefert, as Walls swooped to the inside at the last moment and stole the win to sweep the night. The 300 division feature was claimed by York Haven, PA’s Maddox Wire.
Next Friday, May 23, the Linda’s Speedway returns to competition with one of the biggest events of the season, the inaugural Pistol Pete Duels in honor of legendary competitor Pete Skias. The first night of the Duels takes place at the Linda’s Speedway, with race two unfolding at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway next Saturday night. Both Pistol Pete Duels for the 270 competitors
will pay $3,000 to win, with several contingency awards organized by the Skias family as well. Two support divisions will join the 270s next Friday, as the Xcel 600 Modified Tour will be back in action, along with a double-header for the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprints featuring
their makeup event from April 25. For those unable to attend in person, live-streaming coverage will be provided courtesy of The Cushion.
