RPW Exclusive: Cautions, Close Calls & Checkered Flags In Fayetteville’s Memorial Day Race

Column By: CHARLES WISLER / RPW – FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Memorial Day race at Fayetteville Motor Speedway delivered an evening of intense competition, marked by numerous cautions, thrilling battles, and a few flared tempers.

Despite the frequent interruptions, drivers pushed their machines to the limit across multiple classes, providing a memorable night for race fans.

 

INEX Legends See Flag-to-Flag Domination and a Big Gainer

A strong field of 16 INEX Legends cars took to the track, and it was Tyler Sealey who put on a masterful performance, leading flag to flag. Sealey faced relentless pressure from multiple drivers throughout the race, but held his nerve to secure the victory. The “Big Gainer” of the Legends feature was undoubtedly Joseph Sanoske, who demonstrated incredible skill and determination by starting in 13th position and carving his way through the field to a remarkable 3rd place finish.

 

Blackwell Takes 602 Late Model Honors

In the 602 Late Model feature, the Blackwells, Zach and Chase, started on the front row, first and second respectively. While Chase experienced an early setback, Zach Blackwell drove the wheels off his #17 machine, maintaining his lead and ultimately crossing the finish line in first place, capturing a well-deserved win.

 

Butler Continues Pure Stock V8 Winning Streak

Michael Butler proved his prowess in the Pure Stock V8 class, capturing the win at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. This victory marks his second in as many weeks, following a win last weekend at Lake View Motor Speedway, demonstrating a strong run of form for Butler.

 

Bentley Victorious in 602 Modifieds

Eric Bentley showcased a dominant performance in the 602 Modifieds class, starting from the pole position and maintaining his lead throughout the race to grab the checkered flag.

 

Tempers Flare in Carolina Outlaws Super Street Series

The Carolina Outlaws Super Street Series feature saw high-octane racing take a dramatic turn when Ron Pope and Johnny Moore made contact coming out of Turn 2. The incident resulted in a wreck that unfortunately put both cars out of the race. In a post-race development, official results indicated that despite Danny Hudson crossing the finish line first, he was subsequently disqualified, naming Benji Thompson as the rightful winner of the hotly contested race.

 

Mitchell Unchallenged in I-95 Limited Late Models; Milliken’s “Wild Child” Drive

Dustin Mitchell delivered a commanding performance in the I-95 Limited Late Model class, leading flag to flag with seemingly little pressure to secure the win and the $2,000 purse. The race was not without its share of action, however, as Brian Strickland and Michael Rouse made contact, resulting in significant damage to the left side of Rouse’s #23 machine. A notable drive came from “Wild Child” Willie Milliken, who put on an impressive display of skilled driving, maneuvering his #1 car from a 14th place starting position all the way up to a commendable 6th place finish.

Fayetteville Motor Speedway’s Memorial Day race proved to be an eventful evening, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next round of thrilling short-track action scheduled for June 21st.
