Carraghan & Esterly Score Super National Slingshot Wins At Linda’s Speedway

Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S SPEEDWAY – JONESTOWN, PA – Super National Weekend for the All Star and Junior Slingshot competitors often brings together the best of the best from the division, competing in races at three different tracks with points being tabulated directly toward the Slingshot World Championship standings.
Despite fields in excess of 20 cars with several “invaders” looking to make their mark, both of
Friday night’s Slingshot features at the Linda’s Speedway belonged to track regulars, as Dave
Carraghan and Lilly Esterly protected their home turf and parked their machines in victory lane at the Jonestown quarter-mile.
For Carraghan, his win in Friday night’s All Star Slingshot feature made him 2-for-2 on the
week, as he had also taken the checkers at Action Track USA in Kutztown on Wednesday night. The three-time Linda’s track champion was the class of the field all night, but had to fend off a challenge from All Star Slingshot rookie – and last year’s Junior Slingshot track champ – Hailey Eroh over the course of a non-stop 22-lapper.
Carraghan fended off Eroh’s challenges in the early laps of the race, and then kept control of his advantage working through lapped traffic to hold onto the lead the entire way, crossing the finish line four car lengths ahead of the runner-up Eroh and third-place finisher Jonathan Laureigh.
Meanwhile for Lilly Esterly, her story was one of redemption in the Hoffer Paving Junior
Slingshot class. Esterly had narrowly missed out on her first career win three weeks prior in the most recent Junior Slingshot race at Linda’s. Then came Wednesday night’s Super National opener in Kutztown, where Esterly had a perfect night going until being spun from the lead on the opening lap of the A-Main.
Esterly put together a similar start to the evening on Friday, timing fastest in the timed dashes and winning her heat race to put her back on the pole for the feature. This time, nothing got in Esterly’s way en route to victory number one. Esterly held off a fierce challenge from Aubrey Romig over a final three-lap dash to the finish and won the 18-lap A-Main by a mere two car lengths over Romig and third-place finisher E. J. Hatch.
In other Friday night action at the quarter-mile, Wind Gap, PA’s Brayden Winters made his return to Linda’s Speedway victory lane for the first time in several years, triumphing in a thrilling 25-lapper for the Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints. Winters had to hold off a bullish Brayden Spencer for the win, as Spencer appeared to be faster, but could not find a way aroundthe veteran. Despite a little contact through the final corner, Winters kept his car pointed in the
right direction to claim the victory by a car length over the No. 27 machine.
For the second consecutive race, the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprints contested two features in the same night, with former Winged 600 track champion Brian Kramer chalking up the win in the makeup feature from April 4. In the evening’s regularly-scheduled racing event, “The Wild Child” Chase Schott scored his second win in three weeks with a wire-to-wire performance in a tough and demanding 25-lap nightcap.
The third time was finally the charm to kick off the GP Motorsports Front Wheel Drive Cars season at the Linda’s Speedway. A full field of stock cars put on an entertaining show with side-by-side and three-wide racing all throughout the field. Rising above the rest however was Williamstown’s Ian Whitcomb, as he scored his first Linda’s Speedway win ahead of Chris Yob and last year’s champion Ken Buck.
The Linda’s Speedway is back in action next Friday, June 13 with another five-division,
six-feature show. The Skeet Craft Collision 270 Time Trial Series returns along with the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprints, the 600 Modifieds, and the Skeet Craft Collision Junior Sprints. The East Coast Legends will also return to the quarter-mile, running their makeup feature from the Earman Fulk Memorial on April 25 in addition to another complete show
