Champions Return For ‘Nostalgia Night’ Sunday At Orange County Fair Speedway

Story By: JOHN SNYDER / ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – We’re just days away from the season opening program of races at the historic Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York.
It all happens Sunday, June 8 marking the 78th consecutive year of stock car racing action with a full three division program of DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks on the big five-eighths-mile clay speedway.
In addition it’s also the 19th Annual Doug Dulgarian’s Nostalgia Night, welcoming back former competitors for an afternoon and evening reminiscence, autograph signing, and remembering the older race cars. The entire program is presented by Extreme Power Sports.
At last count, more than 50 former Orange County competitors have indicated they’ll be joining the festivities, with several more expected. Among the “alumni” are former Modified division champions Buzzie Reutimann along with his son NASCAR Cup Series winner David Reutimann, all-time Orange County winner Brett Hearn, Rich Eurich, Chuck McKee, Jerry Higbie, Tim Hindley, and Tommy Meier
On Nostalgia Night, the speedway pits, stands, and unique Drive-In will open at 2:00 pm. Nostalgia Night driver autographs will take place between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Race cars will be on the speedway at 5:00 pm, with the evening’s first race taking the green flag at 6:00 pm. Following qualifying, the Modified feature will be held first.
“We’re well aware that it’s Sunday evening, and also that schools are still in session, so we’ll strive to have a fast-paced program without any extended breaks,” says co-promoter Dulgarian. “Our qualifying races for the Modifieds and Sportsman are eight laps, six laps for the Street Stocks. The feature races are 30 laps Modifieds, 20 laps Sportsman, and 15 laps Street Stocks.”
“We expect large fields in all three divisions,” adds co-promoter Brett Hearn. “Don’t be surprised to see ‘invaders’ pulling into the pits. That just adds to our excitement level.”
On race day, Sunday, June 8, General admission Adults $20 stands or Drive-In, Seniors $15, Children 12 and under $5. Party Deck $30 each minimum of two. Pit passes $35. A Nostalgia Night poster will be available for fans to collect autographs from their favorite drivers.
