Chris Raabe Goes To 358-Modified Victory Lane Friday Night At Mohawk International Raceway
Story By: ROBERT HILL JR. / MOHAWK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY – HOGANSBURG, NY – Kicking off night #2 of the 2025 Mohawk International Raceway season was race #2 of the Frenchie’s Memorial Cup, carried over from opening night.
Casey Swap was the first to cross the finish line but was disqualified after scaling underweight, resulting in career victory #1 for Dale Gonyo Jr. in the 358 Modified division.
Next on track was the mini-stock division. Although there were fewer cars than usual for the evening, the action was still exciting. Felix Lavictoire was able to work his way to victory lane for the first time since the 2023 season at Mohawk International Raceway, dominating the night by winning both the heat and the feature, leading flag-to-flag. Glenn Engstrom finished second, with Todd Fleury rounding out the podium.
The Limited Sportsman division was also on hand with 10 entries. Heat race victories went to Garin Thompson and Graysen Reddick. Thompson led the early part of the feature before a caution for an incident in turn 2 slowed the field, giving Keith Pelkey the opportunity to pounce on the restart. Pelkey then took over the lead and cruised to victory lane for the first time this season.
Following intermission, the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club took to the track for their 2025 season opener. Chris Prior led the majority of the race in the 70s and 80s division before a red flag for an incident in turn 3 allowed Ian Gordon to get a second chance. After the restart, Gordon quickly took the lead and went on to win the season opener in the 70s and 80s class. Greg Hale led the 50s and 60s division from flag to flag, parking his #28 machine in victory lane.
The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds then returned to the track for the night’s festivities. Heat race wins went to Chris Raabe, Lucas Fuller, and Larry Welling. Due to the inversion for the night, Louis Jackson Jr. started on the pole and led the first 24 laps, with Chris Raabe close behind. Lapped traffic with six laps to go allowed Raabe to make a high move past Jackson, ultimately securing the victory. This marked Raabe’s first feature win of the season and added to his record-leading victory count in the DIRTcar 358 division at Mohawk.
Next up was the DIRTcar Pro-stock division. Heat wins went to Denis Gauvreau, last week’s feature winner Eric Jean-Louis, and 2024 track champion Dakota Sharp. The feature race was full of excitement; Gauvreau took an early lead and held it largely uncontested until the closing laps, when Sharp worked his way to Gauvreau’s rear bumper. Sharp finished a close second, but Gauvreau claimed his first Mohawk International Raceway victory of 2025.
Wrapping up the evening, the DIRTcar Sportsman division took to the track, with Dylan Moore, Fire Swamp, and 2024 track champion Tristan Ladoucer each earning heat victories. In the feature, Jamy Begore and Shane Pecore started side-by-side on the front row. Pecore jumped out to the lead at the green flag and led the entire 25-lap race, winning back-to-back to start the season.
Next up at Mohawk International Raceway is Friday, June 13th, when Ellis Automotive presents the PM Promotions Pro-stock Series opener alongside the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, and Mini-stocks.
